Matthew 25-28

Parable of Ten Virgins

[10] "And while they were going away to make the purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. [Mat 25:10 LSB]

[12] "But he answered and said, 'Truly I say to you, I do not know you.' [Mat 25:12 LSB]

[5] "Before I formed you in the innermost parts I knew you, And before you came out from the womb I set you apart; I have given you as a prophet to the nations." [Jer 1:5 LSB]

[5] I Myself knew you in the wilderness, In the land of drought. [Hos 13:5 LSB]

[13] "Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know the day nor the hour. [Mat 25:13 LSB]

Parable of the Talents

[30] "And throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. [Mat 25:30 LSB]

[13] "Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' [Mat 22:13 LSB]

[51] and will cut him in pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. [Mat 24:51 LSB]

[28] "In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves being cast out. [Luk 13:28 LSB]

The Final Judgment

[37] "Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You [something] to drink? ... [40] "And the King will answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, [even] the least [of them], you did it to Me.' [Mat 25:37, 40 LSB]

[44] "Then they themselves also will answer, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?' [45] "Then He will answer them, saying, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.' [46] "And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." [Mat 25:44-46 LSB]

[11] Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sits upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. [12] Then I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is [the book] of life. And the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. [13] And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them, and they were judged, every one [of them] according to their deeds. [Rev 20:11-13 LSB]

The Plot to Kill Jesus

[1] Now it happened that when Jesus had finished all these words, He said to His disciples, [2] "You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man is [to be] delivered over for crucifixion." [Mat 26:1-2 LSB]

The Costly Perfume

[7] a woman came to Him with an alabaster jar of very costly perfume, and she poured it on His head as He reclined [at the table]. [Mat 26:7 LSB]

[13] "Truly I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of in memory of her." [Mat 26:13 LSB]

Judas Looks to Betray Jesus

The Passover Meal

The Lord’s Supper

[26] Now while they were eating, Jesus took [some] bread, and after a blessing, He broke [it]. And giving [it] to the disciples, He said, "Take, eat; this is My body." [27] And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave [it] to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you; [28] for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. [Mat 26:26-28 LSB]

[28] just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." [Mat 20:28 LSB]

[19] For as through the one man's disobedience the many were appointed sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be appointed righteous. [Rom 5:19 LSB]

[28] so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without [reference to] sin, to those who eagerly await Him. [Heb 9:28 LSB]

[2] and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for [those of] the whole world. [1Jo 2:2 LSB]

Jesus Prays in Gethsemane

[38] Then He said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me." [39] And He went a little beyond [them], and fell on His face and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will." [Mat 26:38-39 LSB]

[41] "Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." [Mat 26:41 LSB]

The Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus

[56] "But all this has taken place in order that the Scriptures of the prophets would be fulfilled." Then all the disciples left Him and fled. [Mat 26:56 LSB]

Jesus Before Caiaphas

[63] But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest said to Him, "I put You under oath by the living God, that You tell us whether You are the Christ, the Son of God." [64] Jesus said to him, "You yourself said [it]; nevertheless I tell you, hereafter you will see THE SON OF MAN SITTING AT THE RIGHT HAND OF POWER and COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN." [Mat 26:63-64 LSB]

[1] Of David. A Psalm. Yahweh says to my Lord: "Sit at My right hand Until I put Your enemies as a footstool for Your feet." [2] Yahweh will stretch forth Your strong scepter from Zion, [saying], "Have dominion in the midst of Your enemies." [Psa 110:1-2 LSB]

[13] "I kept looking in the night visions, And behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son of Man was coming, And He came up to the Ancient of Days And came near before Him. [14] "And to Him was given dominion, Glory, and a kingdom, That all the peoples, nations, and [men of every] tongue Might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not be taken away; And His kingdom is one Which will not be destroyed. [Dan 7:13-14 LSB]

Peter’s Denials

[74] Then he began to curse and swear, "I do not know the man!" And immediately a rooster crowed. [75] And Peter remembered the word which Jesus had said, "Before a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times." And he went out and cried bitterly. [Mat 26:74-75 LSB]

Judas’ Remorse
[5] And he threw the pieces of silver into the sanctuary and departed; and he went away and hanged himself. [Mat 27:5 LSB]

[9] Then that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying, "AND THEY TOOK THE THIRTY PIECES OF SILVER, THE PRICE OF THE ONE WHOSE PRICE HAD BEEN SET by the sons of Israel; [Mat 27:9 LSB]

[12] And I said to them, "If it is good in your sight, give [me] my wages; but if not, never mind!" So they weighed out thirty [shekels] of silver as my wages. [13] Then Yahweh said to me, "Throw it to the potter, [that] valuable price at which I was valued by them." So I took the thirty [shekels] of silver and threw them to the potter in the house of Yahweh. [Zec 11:12-13 LSB]

Jesus Before Pilate

[25] And all the people answered and said, "His blood be on us and on our children!" [Mat 27:25 LSB]

[16] "Fathers shall not be put to death for [their] sons, nor shall sons be put to death for [their] fathers; each shall be put to death for his own sin. [Deu 24:16 LSB]

Jesus Is Mocked

The Crucifixion

[46] And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" that is, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?" [Mat 27:46 LSB]

[1] My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Far from my salvation are the words of my groaning. [Psa 22:1 LSB]

[50] And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. [51] And behold, the veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split. [Mat 27:50-51 LSB]

[12] and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy places once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. ... [24] For Christ did not enter holy places made with hands, [mere] copies of the true ones, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; [Heb 9:12, 24 LSB]

[19] Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, [20] by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, [Heb 10:19-20 LSB]

[52] And the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; [Mat 27:52 LSB]

Jesus Is Buried

Jesus Is Risen!

[5] And the angel answered and said to the women, "Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. [6] "He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying. [Mat 28:5-6 LSB]

The Great Commission

[18] And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. [19] "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, [20] teaching them to keep all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." [Mat 28:18-20 LSB]
