Genesis 16-18

Sarai and Hagar

[13] Then she called the name of Yahweh who spoke to her, "You are a God who sees"; for she said, "Have I even remained alive here after seeing Him?" [14] Therefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered. [Gen 16:13-14 LSB]

[16] Now Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to him. [Gen 16:16 LSB]

Circumcision, the Sign of the Covenant

[5] "And no longer shall your name be called Abram, But your name shall be Abraham; For I have made you the father of a multitude of nations. [Gen 17:5 LSB]

[10] "This is My covenant, which you shall keep, between Me and you and your seed after you: every male among you shall be circumcised. [11] "And you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be the sign of the covenant between Me and you. [Gen 17:10-11 LSB]

[25] For indeed circumcision is of value if you practice the Law, but if you are a transgressor of the Law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. [26] So if the uncircumcised man observes the righteous requirements of the Law, will not his uncircumcision be counted as circumcision? [27] And he who is physically uncircumcised, if he fulfills the Law, will he not judge you who, through the letter [of the Law] and circumcision, are a transgressor of the Law? [28] For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh. [29] But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God. [Rom 2:25-29 LSB]

Sarah Will Bear Isaac

[15] Then God said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah [shall be] her name. [16] "And I will bless her, and indeed I will give you a son by her. Then I will bless her, and she shall be [a mother of] nations; kings of peoples will come from her." [Gen 17:15-16 LSB]

[19] But God said, "No, but Sarah your wife will bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his seed after him. [Gen 17:19 LSB]

[24] Now Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. [Gen 17:24 LSB]

Yahweh Appears to Abraham

[12] And Sarah laughed to herself, saying, "After I am worn out, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?" [Gen 18:12 LSB]

[5] For in this way in former times the holy women also, who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves, being subject to their own husbands, [6] just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You have become her children if you do good, NOT FEARING ANY INTIMIDATION. [1Pe 3:5-6 LSB]

 

Yahweh and Abraham Speak About Sodom

[20] So Yahweh said, "The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave. [21] "I will go down now and see whether they have done entirely according to its outcry, which has come to Me; and if not, I will know." [Gen 18:20-21 LSB]

[32] Then he said, "Oh may the Lord not be angry, and I shall speak only this once; suppose ten are found there?" And He said, "I will not destroy [it] on account of the ten." [Gen 18:32 LSB]

[39] Then Gideon said to God, "Do not let Your anger burn against me that I may speak once more; please let me make a test once more with the fleece; let it now be dry only on the fleece, and let there be dew on all the ground." [Jdg 6:39 LSB]
