Genesis 25-27

The Death of Abraham

[1] Now Abraham took another wife, whose name was Keturah. [Gen 25:1 LSB]

[32] The sons of Keturah, Abraham's concubine, [whom] she bore, [were] Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. And the sons of Jokshan [were] Sheba and Dedan. [1Ch 1:32 LSB]

[5] And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac; [6] but to the sons of the concubines which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts while he was still living, and he sent them away from his son Isaac eastward, to the land of the east. [Gen 25:5-6 LSB]

[11] Now it happened after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac lived by Beer-lahai-roi. [Gen 25:11 LSB]

[13] Then she called the name of Yahweh who spoke to her, "You are a God who sees"; for she said, "Have I even remained alive here after seeing Him?" [14] Therefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered. [Gen 16:13-14 LSB]

The Generations of Ishmael

The Generations of Isaac

[21] And Isaac entreated Yahweh on behalf of his wife because she was barren; and Yahweh was moved by his entreaty. So Rebekah his wife conceived. [Gen 25:21 LSB]

[22] But the children struggled together within her; and she said, "If it is so, why then am I this [way]?" So she went to inquire of Yahweh. [23] And Yahweh said to her, "Two nations are in your womb; And two peoples will be separated from your body; And one people shall be stronger than the other; And the older shall serve the younger." [Gen 25:22-23 LSB]

[2] "I have loved you," says Yahweh. But you say, "How have You loved us?" "[Was] not Esau Jacob's brother?" declares Yahweh. "Yet I have loved Jacob; [3] but I have hated Esau, and I have set his mountains [to be] a desolation and his inheritance for the jackals of the wilderness." [Mal 1:2-3 LSB]

Esau Sells His Birthright

[22] But the children struggled together within her; and she said, "If it is so, why then am I this [way]?" So she went to inquire of Yahweh. [23] And Yahweh said to her, "Two nations are in your womb; And two peoples will be separated from your body; And one people shall be stronger than the other; And the older shall serve the younger." ... [31] But Jacob said, "First sell me your birthright." [32] And Esau said, "Behold, I am about to die; so of what [use] then is the birthright to me?" [33] And Jacob said, "First swear to me"; so he swore to him and sold his birthright to Jacob. [34] So Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew; and he ate and drank and rose and went away. Thus Esau despised his birthright. [Gen 25:22-23, 31-34 LSB]

Yahweh Establishes the Oath with Isaac

[3] "Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you and bless you, for to you and to your seed I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to your father Abraham. [4] "And I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and I will give your seed all these lands; and by your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; [5] because Abraham listened to My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws." [Gen 26:3-5 LSB]

Isaac and Abimelech

[12] And Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in the same year one hundredfold. And Yahweh blessed him, [Gen 26:12 LSB]

The Quarrel over the Wells

[24] And Yahweh appeared to him that night and said, "I am the God of your father Abraham; Do not fear, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your seed, For the sake of My servant Abraham." [25] So he built an altar there and called upon the name of Yahweh and pitched his tent there; and there Isaac's servants dug out a well. [Gen 26:24-25 LSB]

Isaac’s Oath with Abimelech

[34] And Esau was forty years old, and he took as a wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and [also] Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite; [35] and they brought bitterness to Isaac and Rebekah. [Gen 26:34-35 LSB]

Isaac Calls to Bless Esau

Isaac Blesses Jacob and Esau

[20] Then Isaac said to his son, "How is it that you have found [it] so quickly, my son?" And he said, "Because Yahweh your God caused [it] to happen to me." [Gen 27:20 LSB]

[34] As Esau heard the words of his father, he cried out with an exceedingly great and bitter cry and said to his father, "Bless me, me also, O my father!" [Gen 27:34 LSB]

[16] that [also there be] no sexually immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a [single] meal.
