Matthew 16-18

The Pharisees and Sadducees Test Jesus

[4] "An evil and adulterous generation eagerly seeks for a sign; and a sign will not be given it, except the sign of Jonah." And He left them and went away. [Mat 16:4 LSB]

Peter Confesses Jesus Is the Christ

[18] "And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. [Mat 16:18 LSB]

[19] So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household, [20] having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner [stone], [Eph 2:19-20 LSB]

[19] "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven." [Mat 16:19 LSB]

[17] "And if he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as the Gentile and the tax collector. [18] "Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven. [Mat 18:17-18 LSB]

[23] "If you forgive the sins of any, [their sins] have been forgiven them; if you retain the [sins] of any, they have been retained." [Jhn 20:23 LSB]

 

Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection

[21] From that time Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on the third day. [Mat 16:21 LSB]

[23] But He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God's interests, but man's." [Mat 16:23 LSB]

Take Up Your Cross

[24] Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. [Mat 16:24 LSB]

[27] "For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and WILL THEN REPAY EACH ONE ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS. [Mat 16:27 LSB]

[8] In the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing. [2Ti 4:8 LSB]

[28] "Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom." [Mat 16:28 LSB]

[17] For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, "This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased"-- [18] and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. The Transfiguration

[5] While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!" [Mat 17:5 LSB]

[17] and behold, [there was] a voice out of the heavens saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased." [Mat 3:17 LSB]

 

Jesus Casts Out a Demon

[21] ["But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting."] [Mat 17:21 LSB]

[3] So I gave my face to the Lord God to seek [Him by] prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes. [Dan 9:3 LSB]

[23] And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, having prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed. [Act 14:23 LSB]

 

The Temple Tax

Who Is Greatest in Heaven?

[3] and said, "Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. [Mat 18:3 LSB]

Stumbling Blocks

[7] "Woe to the world because of [its] stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; nevertheless, woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes! [Mat 18:7 LSB]

The Parable of the Lost Sheep

[14] "In this way, it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones perish. [Mat 18:14 LSB]

[28] and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish--ever; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. [Jhn 10:28 LSB]

If Your Brother Sins

[19] "Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. [20] "For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst." [Mat 18:19-20 LSB]

Forgiveness

[22] Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. [Mat 18:22 LSB]
