Exodus 16-18

Yahweh Rains Bread from Heaven

Yahweh Gives Meat and Bread
[13] So it happened at evening that the quails came up and covered the camp, and in the morning there was a layer of dew around the camp. [14] Then the layer of dew evaporated, and behold, on the surface of the wilderness there was a fine flake-like thing, fine as the frost on the ground. [Exo 16:13-14 LSB]

[21] So they gathered it morning by morning, every man as much as he should eat; but the sun would grow hot, and it would melt. [Exo 16:21 LSB]

Yahweh Gives Bread for Two Days
[31] And the house of Israel named it manna, and it was like coriander seed, white, and its taste was like wafers with honey. [Exo 16:31 LSB]

Water from the Rock
[6] "Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink." And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. [7] So he named the place Massah and Meribah because of the contending of the sons of Israel, and because they tested Yahweh, saying, "Is Yahweh among us or not?" [Exo 17:6-7 LSB]

Israel Overwhelms Amalek
[15] And Moses built an altar and named it Yahweh is My Banner; [16] and he said, "Because He [has sworn] with a hand upon the throne of Yah, Yahweh will have war against Amalek from generation to generation." [Exo 17:15-16 LSB]

Exodus 13-15

Sanctifying the Firstborn

[2] "Sanctify to Me every firstborn, the first offspring of every womb among the sons of Israel, both of man and beast; it belongs to Me." [Exo 13:2 LSB]

The Feast of Unleavened Bread

[9] "And it will be as a sign to you on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that the law of Yahweh may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand Yahweh brought you out of Egypt. [Exo 13:9 LSB]

[14] "And it will be when your son asks you in time to come, saying, 'What is this?' then you shall say to him, 'With a strong hand Yahweh brought us out of Egypt, from the house of slavery. [15] 'And it happened, when Pharaoh hardened [his heart] with stiffness about letting us go, that Yahweh killed every firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of beast. Therefore, I sacrifice to Yahweh the males, the first offspring of every womb, but every firstborn of my sons I redeem.' [Exo 13:14-15 LSB]

Pillars of Cloud and Fire

[21] And Yahweh was going before them in a pillar of cloud by day to guide them on the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, that they might go by day and by night. [Exo 13:21 LSB]

Israel Crosses the Red Sea

[4] "Thus I will harden Pharaoh's heart with strength, and he will pursue them; and I will be glorified through Pharaoh and all his army, so that the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh." And they did so. [Exo 14:4 LSB]

[8] And Yahweh hardened the heart of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, with strength, and he pursued the sons of Israel as the sons of Israel were going out with an exalted hand. [Exo 14:8 LSB]

[13] But Moses said to the people, "Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of Yahweh which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. [14] "Yahweh will fight for you, and you will keep silent." [Exo 14:13-14 LSB]

[17] "As for Me, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians with strength so that they will go in after them; and I will be glorified through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. [Exo 14:17 LSB]

[28] And the waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even Pharaoh's entire army that had gone into the sea after them; not even one of them remained. [29] But the sons of Israel walked on dry land through the midst of the sea, and the waters [were] a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. [Exo 14:28-29 LSB]

The Song of Moses and Israel

[1] Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to Yahweh and said, "I will sing to Yahweh, for He is highly exalted; The horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea. [Exo 15:1 LSB]

Yahweh Sweetens the Water

[26] And He said, "If you will earnestly listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, Yahweh, am your healer." [Exo 15:26 LSB]

Exodus 10-12

The Plague of Locusts

[1] Then Yahweh said to Moses, "Come to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants with firmness, that I may set these signs of Mine among them, [2] and that you may recount in the hearing of your son and of your grandson, how I dealt severely with the Egyptians, and how I put My signs among them, that you may know that I am Yahweh." [Exo 10:1-2 LSB]

[20] But Yahweh hardened Pharaoh's heart with strength, and he did not let the sons of Israel go. [Exo 10:20 LSB]

The Plague of Darkness

[27] But Yahweh hardened Pharaoh's heart with strength, and he was not willing to let them go. [Exo 10:27 LSB]

Yahweh Says One More Plague

[9] Then Yahweh said to Moses, "Pharaoh will not listen to you, so that My miraculous wonders will be multiplied in the land of Egypt." [10] Now Moses and Aaron did all these miraculous wonders before Pharaoh; yet Yahweh hardened Pharaoh's heart with strength, and he did not let the sons of Israel go out of his land. [Exo 11:9-10 LSB]

The Passover Lamb

[5] 'Your lamb shall be a male, without blemish, a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats. [6] 'And you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month, then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall slaughter it at twilight. [7] 'Moreover, they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. [Exo 12:5-7 LSB]

[13] 'And the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and I will see the blood, and I will pass over you, and there shall be no plague among you to destroy [you] when I strike the land of Egypt. [Exo 12:13 LSB]

The Feast of Unleavened Bread

[21] Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, "Bring out and take for yourselves lambs according to your families and slaughter the Passover [lamb]. [22] "And you shall take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood which is in the basin, and touch some of the blood that is in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts; and none of you shall go outside the doorway of his house until morning. [23] "And Yahweh will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and He will see the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, and Yahweh will pass over the doorway and will not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to smite [you]. [Exo 12:21-23 LSB]

Death of the Firstborn of Egypt

[29] Now it happened at midnight that Yahweh struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of cattle. [Exo 12:29 LSB]

Israel Goes Out From Egypt

[37] And the sons of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, aside from the little ones. [38] A foreign multitude also went up with them, along with flocks and herds, a very large number of livestock. [Exo 12:37-38 LSB]

The Statute of the Passover

[40] Now the time that the sons of Israel lived in Egypt was 430 years. [41] And it happened at the end of 430 years, to the very day, that all the hosts of Yahweh went out from the land of Egypt. [42] It is a night to be kept for Yahweh for having brought them out from the land of Egypt; this night is for Yahweh, to be kept by all the sons of Israel throughout their generations. [Exo 12:40-42 LSB]

[48] "But if a sojourner sojourns with you and celebrates the Passover to Yahweh, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near to celebrate it; and he shall be like a native of the land. But no uncircumcised person may eat of it. [Exo 12:48 LSB]

[22] Yet the magicians of Egypt did the same with their secret arts; and Pharaoh's heart was hardened with strength, and he did not listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken. [Exo 7:22 LSB]

The Plague of Frogs

[15] Then Pharaoh saw that there was relief, and he hardened his heart with firmness and did not listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken. [Exo 8:15 LSB]

[19] And the magicians said to Pharaoh, "This is the finger of God." But Pharaoh's heart was hardened with strength, and he did not listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken. [Exo 8:19 LSB]

The Plague of Flies

[32] Then Pharaoh hardened his heart with firmness this time also, and he did not let the people go. [Exo 8:32 LSB]

The Plague of Dying Egyptian Livestock

[7] And Pharaoh sent, and behold, there was not even one of the livestock of Israel dead. But the heart of Pharaoh was hardened with firmness, and he did not let the people go. [Exo 9:7 LSB]

Exodus 4-6

If They Will Not Believe These Signs

Aaron to Speak for Moses

[11] And Yahweh said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes [him] mute or deaf, or seeing or blind? Is it not I, Yahweh? [12] "So now, go, and I, even I, will be with your mouth and will instruct you what you shall speak." [Exo 4:11-12 LSB]

[11] "Now when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not worry about how or what you are to speak in your defense, or what you are to say, [12] for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say." [Luk 12:11-12 LSB]

Moses Returns to Egypt

[21] And Yahweh said to Moses, "When you go to return to Egypt, see [to it] that all the miraculous wonders which I have put in your hand, that you do them before Pharaoh; but as for Me, I will harden his heart with strength so that he will not let the people go. [22] "Then you shall say to Pharaoh, 'Thus says Yahweh, "Israel is My son, My firstborn. [23] "So I said to you, 'Let My son go that he may serve Me'; but you have refused to let him go. Behold, I will kill your son, your firstborn."'" [Exo 4:21-23 LSB]

[15] For He says to Moses, "I WILL HAVE MERCY ON WHOM I HAVE MERCY, AND I WILL HAVE COMPASSION ON WHOM I HAVE COMPASSION." [16] So then it [does] not [depend] on the one who wills or the one who runs, but on God who has mercy. [17] For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "FOR THIS VERY PURPOSE I RAISED YOU UP, IN ORDER TO DEMONSTRATE MY POWER IN YOU, AND IN ORDER THAT MY NAME MIGHT BE PROCLAIMED THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE EARTH." [18] So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires. [Rom 9:15-18 LSB]

Pharaoh Will Not Let the People Go

Yahweh Remembers His Covenant

[3] and I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as God Almighty, but [by] My name, Yahweh, I was not known to them. [Exo 6:3 LSB]

[23] "But when he was approaching the age of forty, it entered his heart to visit his brothers, the sons of Israel. [24] "And when he saw one [of them] being treated unjustly, he defended him and took justice for the oppressed by striking down the Egyptian. [Act 7:23-24 LSB]

[21] And Moses was willing to settle down with the man, and he gave his daughter Zipporah to Moses. [22] Then she gave birth to a son, and he named him Gershom, for he said, "I have been a sojourner in a foreign land." [Exo 2:21-22 LSB]

God Hears Israel’s Groaning

[24] So God heard their groaning; and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. [25] And God saw the sons of Israel, and God knew [them]. [Exo 2:24-25 LSB]

[14] And God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM"; and He said, "Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'" [Exo 3:14 LSB]

[10] "And while they were going away to make the purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. [Mat 25:10 LSB]

[12] "But he answered and said, 'Truly I say to you, I do not know you.' [Mat 25:12 LSB]

[51] and will cut him in pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. [Mat 24:51 LSB]

[28] "In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves being cast out. [Luk 13:28 LSB]

The Final Judgment

[37] "Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You [something] to drink? ... [40] "And the King will answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, [even] the least [of them], you did it to Me.' [Mat 25:37, 40 LSB]

[44] "Then they themselves also will answer, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?' [45] "Then He will answer them, saying, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.' [46] "And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." [Mat 25:44-46 LSB]

[11] Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sits upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. [12] Then I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is [the book] of life. And the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. [13] And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them, and they were judged, every one [of them] according to their deeds. [Rev 20:11-13 LSB]

The Lord’s Supper

[26] Now while they were eating, Jesus took [some] bread, and after a blessing, He broke [it]. And giving [it] to the disciples, He said, "Take, eat; this is My body." [27] And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave [it] to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you; [28] for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. [Mat 26:26-28 LSB]

[28] just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." [Mat 20:28 LSB]

[19] For as through the one man's disobedience the many were appointed sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be appointed righteous. [Rom 5:19 LSB]

[28] so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without [reference to] sin, to those who eagerly await Him. [Heb 9:28 LSB]

[2] and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for [those of] the whole world. [1Jo 2:2 LSB]

[64] Jesus said to him, "You yourself said [it]; nevertheless I tell you, hereafter you will see THE SON OF MAN SITTING AT THE RIGHT HAND OF POWER and COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN." [Mat 26:63-64 LSB]

[1] Of David. A Psalm. Yahweh says to my Lord: "Sit at My right hand Until I put Your enemies as a footstool for Your feet." [2] Yahweh will stretch forth Your strong scepter from Zion, [saying], "Have dominion in the midst of Your enemies." [Psa 110:1-2 LSB]

[13] "I kept looking in the night visions, And behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son of Man was coming, And He came up to the Ancient of Days And came near before Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not be taken away; And His kingdom is one Which will not be destroyed. [Dan 7:13-14 LSB]

Peter’s Denials

[12] And I said to them, "If it is good in your sight, give [me] my wages; but if not, never mind!" So they weighed out thirty [shekels] of silver as my wages. [13] Then Yahweh said to me, "Throw it to the potter, [that] valuable price at which I was valued by them." So I took the thirty [shekels] of silver and threw them to the potter in the house of Yahweh. [Zec 11:12-13 LSB]

Jesus Before Pilate

[25] And all the people answered and said, "His blood be on us and on our children!" [Mat 27:25 LSB]

[12] and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy places once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. ... [24] For Christ did not enter holy places made with hands, [mere] copies of the true ones, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; [Heb 9:12, 24 LSB]

[19] Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, [20] by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, [Heb 10:19-20 LSB]

[52] And the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; [Mat 27:52 LSB]

[38] "This is the great and foremost commandment. [39] "And the second is like it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' [Mat 22:36-39 LSB]

The Coming of the Son of Man

[29] "But immediately after the tribulation of those days THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED, AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT, AND THE STARS WILL FALL from the sky, and the POWERS OF THE HEAVENS will be shaken. [30] "And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory. [4] But He answered and said, "It is written, 'MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'" [Mat 4:4 LSB]

[7] Jesus said to him, "Again, it is written, 'YOU SHALL NOT PUT THE LORD YOUR GOD TO THE TEST.'" [Mat 4:7 LSB]

Jesus Begins His Ministry

[13] and leaving Nazareth, He came and lived in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali, [14] in order that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled, saying, [15] "THE LAND OF ZEBULUN AND THE LAND OF NAPHTALI, BY THE WAY OF THE SEA, BEYOND THE JORDAN, GALILEE OF THE GENTILES-- [16] THE PEOPLE WHO WERE SITTING IN DARKNESS SAW A GREAT LIGHT, AND THOSE WHO WERE SITTING IN THE LAND AND SHADOW OF DEATH, UPON THEM A LIGHT DAWNED." [Mat 4:13-16 LSB]

[1] But there will be no [more] gloom for her who was in anguish; in earlier times He treated the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali with contempt, but later on He shall make [it] glorious, by the way of the sea, on the other side of Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles. [2] The people who walk in darkness Will see a great light; Those who live in the land of the shadow of death, The light will shine on them. [Isa 9:1-2 LSB]

[17] From that time Jesus began to preach and say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." [Mat 4:17 LSB]

The Sermon on the Mount; The Beatitudes

[3] "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [4] Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. [5] Blessed are the lowly, for they shall inherit the earth. [6] Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. [7] Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. [8] Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. [9] Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. [10] Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [11] "Blessed are you when [people] insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. [Mat 5:3-11 LSB]

Salt and Light

[19] "Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others [to do] the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches [them], he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. [Mat 5:19 LSB]

[20] "For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses [that] of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. [Mat 5:20 LSB]

Personal Relationships

[27] "You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY'; [28] but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. [29] "But if your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. [30] "And if your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell. [Mat 5:27-30 LSB]

[48] "Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. [Mat 5:48 LSB]

Giving to the Poor and Prayer

[3] "But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, [4] so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees [what is done] in secret will reward you. [Mat 6:3-4 LSB]

[7] "And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. [8] "Therefore, do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. [Mat 6:7-8 LSB]

Fasting

[17] "But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face [18] so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees [what is done] in secret will reward you. [Mat 6:17-18 LSB]

Treasures in Heaven

[20] "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; [21] for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. [Mat 6:20-21 LSB]

[24] "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. [Mat 6:24 LSB]

Do Not Worry

[33] "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. [34] "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. [Mat 6:33-34 LSB]

Matthew 1-3

The Genealogy of Jesus Christ

[1] The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham: [Mat 1:1 LSB]

[16] And Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, by whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ. [Mat 1:16 LSB]

Conception and Birth of Jesus

[20] But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the One who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. [21] "And she will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." [Mat 1:20-21 LSB]

[2] Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the LORD's hand double for all her sins. [Isa 40:2 ESV]

[22] Now all this took place in order that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled, saying, [23] "BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL," which translated means, "GOD WITH US." [Mat 1:21-23 LSB]

[14] "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel. [Isa 7:14 LSB]

The Visit of the Magi

[5] And they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet: [6] 'AND YOU, BETHLEHEM, LAND OF JUDAH, ARE BY NO MEANS LEAST AMONG THE LEADERS OF JUDAH; FOR OUT OF YOU SHALL COME FORTH A LEADER WHO WILL SHEPHERD MY PEOPLE ISRAEL.'" [Mat 2:5-6 LSB]

[2] "But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, [Too] little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from everlasting, From the ancient days." [Mic 5:2 LSB]

The Flight to Egypt

[15] And he remained there until the death of Herod, in order that what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled, saying, "OUT OF EGYPT I CALLED MY SON." [Mat 2:15 LSB]

[1] When Israel [was] a youth I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son. [Hos 11:1 LSB]

Herod Slaughters Children

[16] Then when Herod saw that he had been tricked by the magi, he became very enraged, and sent and slew all the male children who were in Bethlehem and all its vicinity, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had carefully determined from the magi. [Mat 2:16 LSB]

[15] Thus says Yahweh, "A voice is heard in Ramah, Wailing [and] bitter weeping. Rachel is weeping for her children; She refuses to be comforted for her children Because they are no more." [Jer 31:15 LSB]

[23] and came and lived in a city called Nazareth, so that what was spoken through the prophets would be fulfilled: "He shall be called a Nazarene." [Mat 2:23 LSB]

The Preaching of John the Baptist

[1] Now in those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, [2] "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." [3] For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet, saying, "THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, 'MAKE READY THE WAY OF THE LORD, MAKE HIS PATHS STRAIGHT!'" [Mat 3:1-3 LSB]

[3] A voice is calling, "Prepare the way for Yahweh in the wilderness; Make smooth in the desert a highway for our God. [Isa 40:3 LSB]

[11] "As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. [Mat 3:11 LSB]

The Baptism of Jesus

[16] And after being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove [and] coming upon Him, [17] and behold, [there was] a voice out of the heavens saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased." [Mat 3:16-17 LSB]

[1] "Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen one [in whom] My soul is well-pleased. I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the nations. [Isa 42:1 LSB]

[7] "I will surely tell of the decree of Yahweh: He said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. [Psa 2:7 LSB]

Genesis 47-50

Jacob’s Family Settles in Goshen

[9] So Jacob said to Pharaoh, "The days of the years of my sojourning are 130; few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not attained to the days of the years that my fathers lived during the days of their sojourning." [Gen 47:9 LSB]

[9] By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a foreign [land], dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise, [10] for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. [Heb 11:9-10 LSB]

Joseph and the Famine

[31] Then he said, "Swear to me." So he swore to him. Then Israel bowed [in worship] at the head of the bed. [Gen 47:31 LSB]

[9] Then he had still another dream and recounted it to his brothers and said, "Behold, I have had still another dream; and behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me." [Gen 37:9 LSB]

[16] The right hand of Yahweh is exalted; The right hand of Yahweh does valiantly. [Psa 118:16 LSB]

Jacob Assembles His Sons

[10] "The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to him [shall be] the obedience of the peoples. [Gen 49:10 LSB]

[58] For they provoked Him with their high places And aroused His jealousy with their graven images. [59] God heard and was filled with wrath And greatly rejected Israel; [60] So that He abandoned the dwelling place at Shiloh, The tent which He caused to dwell among men, [61] And gave up His strength to captivity And His beauty into the hand of the adversary. [Psa 78:58-61 LSB]

[33] So Jacob finished commanding his sons. And he drew his feet into the bed and breathed his last and was gathered to his people. [Gen 49:33 LSB]

Jacob’s Burial at Machpelah

[19] But Joseph said to them, "Do not be afraid, for am I in God's place? [20] "As for you, you meant evil against me, [but] God meant it for good in order to do [what has happened on] this day, to keep many people alive. [21] "So now, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones." And he comforted them and spoke to their heart. [Gen 50:19-21 LSB]

The Death of Joseph

[24] And Joseph said to his brothers, "I am about to die, but God will surely take care of you and bring you up from this land to the land which He swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob." [25] Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying, "God will surely take care of you, and you shall carry my bones up from here." [Gen 50:24-25 LSB]

[22] By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the exodus of the sons of Israel, and gave commands concerning his bones. [Heb 11:22 LSB]

The Brothers Return to Egypt

[14] and may God Almighty grant you compassion before the man, so that he will release to you your other brother and Benjamin. And as for me, if I am bereaved of my children, I am bereaved." [Gen 43:14 LSB]

[16] "Go, gather all the Jews who are found in Susa, and fast for me; do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my young women also will fast in the same way. And thus I will go in to the king, which is not according to the law; and if I perish, I perish." [Est 4:16 LSB]

[5] "So now do not be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. [Gen 45:5 LSB]

[27] Yet they told him all the words of Joseph that he had spoken to them, and he saw the wagons that Joseph had sent to carry him. Then the spirit of their father Jacob revived. [4] "I Myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I Myself will also bring you up again; and Joseph will close your eyes with his hand." [Gen 46:2-4 LSB]

[23] Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him. [Gen 40:23 LSB]

[9] Be gracious to me, O Yahweh, for I am in distress; My eye is wasted away from grief, my soul and my body [also]. ... [12] I am forgotten like a dead man--out of mind-- I am like a broken vessel. [Psa 31:9, 12 LSB]

 Joseph Interprets Pharaoh’s Dream

[1] Now it happened at the end of two full years that Pharaoh had a dream, and behold, he was standing by the Nile. [Gen 41:1 LSB]

[7] Behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, my sheaf arose and stood upright. And behold, your sheaves gathered around it and bowed down to my sheaf." [Gen 37:7 ESV]

[3] Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his sons because he was the son of his old age; and he made him a varicolored tunic. [4] And his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, and [so] they hated him and could not speak to him in peace. [Gen 37:3-4 LSB]
