Genesis 4-6 - Noah Found Favor in the Eyes of Yahweh

Cain and Abel

Gen 4:3-5 LSB - [3] So it happened in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to Yahweh of the fruit of the ground. [4] Abel, on his part, also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And Yahweh had regard for Abel and for his offering; [5] but for Cain and for his offering He had no regard. So Cain became very angry, and his countenance fell.

Deu 26:2 LSB - [2] that you shall take some of the first of all the fruit of the ground which you bring in from your land that Yahweh your God gives you, and you shall put [it] in a basket and go to the place where Yahweh your God chooses for His name to dwell.

Gen 4:7 LSB - [7] "If you do well, will not [your countenance] be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is lying at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must rule over it."

Gen 4:6-7 LSB - [6] Then Yahweh said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? [7] "If you do well, will not [your countenance] be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is lying at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must rule over it."

Gen 4:8 LSB - [8] Then Cain spoke to Abel his brother; and it happened when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.

1Jo 3:11-12 LSB - [11] For this is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another; [12] not as Cain, [who] was of the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother's were righteous.

Gen 4:25-26 LSB - [25] Then Adam knew his wife again; and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, for [she said], "God has set for me another seed in place of Abel, for Cain killed him." [26] And to Seth, to him also, a son was born; and he called his name Enosh. Then [men] began to call upon the name of Yahweh.

The Generations of Adam

Gen 5:1-3 LSB - [1] This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day when God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. [2] He created them male and female, and He blessed them and named them Man in the day when they were created. [3] When Adam had lived 130 years, he became the father of [a son] in his own likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth.

Gen 5:29 LSB - [29] Now he called his name Noah, saying, "This one will give us rest from our work and from the pain of our hands [arising] from the ground which Yahweh has cursed."

The Nephilim and the Daughters of Men

Gen 6:3 LSB - [3] Then Yahweh said, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever because he indeed is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be 120 years."

Gen 6:8 LSB - [8] But Noah found favor in the eyes of Yahweh.

The Generations of Noah

Gen 6:11-13 LSB - [11] Now the earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. [12] And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth. [13] Then God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth.

Gen 6:17-18 LSB - [17] "As for Me, behold I am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall breathe its last. [18] "But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall enter the ark--you and your sons and your wife and your sons' wives with you.
