Jeremiah 4-6

Yahweh Calls Israel to Return to Him

[4] "Circumcise yourselves to Yahweh 

And remove the foreskins of your heart, 

Men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, 

Lest My wrath go forth like fire 

And burn with none to quench it 

Because of the evil of your deeds."

Evil from the North

[10] Then I said, "Ah, Lord Yahweh! Surely You have utterly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, 'You will have peace'; whereas a sword touches the throat." [Jer 4:10 LSB]

[13] But, "Ah, Lord Yahweh!" I said, "Behold, the prophets are saying to them, 'You will not see the sword nor will you have famine, but I will give you true peace in this place.'" 

[14] Then Yahweh said to me, "The prophets are prophesying lies in My name. I have neither sent them nor commanded them nor spoken to them; they are prophesying to you a vision of lies, divination, futility, and the deception of their own hearts.

Anguish over Judah’s Desolation

[23] I saw on the earth, and behold, [it was] formless and void; And to the heavens, and they had no light. [Jer 4:23 LSB]

[2] And the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. [Gen 1:2 LSB]

Jerusalem Refuses to Repent

Jeremiah 5:1 LSB — “Roam to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem,

And see now and know,

And seek in her open squares,

If you can find a man,

If there is one who does justice, who seeks faithfulness,

Then I will pardon her.

A Stubborn and Rebellious People

Yahweh Disciplines Israel

Jeremiah 6:21 LSB — Therefore, thus says Yahweh,

“Behold, I am laying stumbling blocks before this people.

And they will stumble against them,

Fathers and sons together;

Neighbor and friend will perish.”
