1 Corinthians 7-9

Concerning Marriage and Singleness

[3] The husband must fulfill his duty to his wife, and likewise also the wife to her husband. [1Co 7:3 LSB]

[4] The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband [does]; and likewise also the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife [does]. [1Co 7:4 LSB]

[5] Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. [1Co 7:5 LSB]

[14] For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her believing husband. For otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are holy. [1Co 7:14 LSB]

[29] But this I say, brothers, the time has been shortened, so that from now on those who have wives should be as though they had none;
[30] and those who cry, as though they did not cry; and those who rejoice, as though they did not rejoice; and those who buy, as though they did not possess;
[31] and those who use the world, as though they did not make full use of it. For the form of this world is passing away.
[1Co 7:29-31 LSB]

[36] If anyone thinks that he is not behaving properly toward his betrothed, if his passions are strong, and it has to be, let him do as he wishes: let them marry--it is no sin.
[37] But whoever is firmly established in his heart, being under no necessity but having his desire under control, and has determined this in his heart, to keep her as his betrothed, he will do well.
[38] So then he who marries his betrothed does well, and he who refrains from marriage will do even better.
[1Co 7:36-38 ESV]

Take Care with Your Liberty

[1] Now concerning things sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.
[2] If anyone thinks that he has known anything, he has not yet known as he ought to know;
[3] but if anyone loves God, he has been known by Him.
[1Co 8:1-3 LSB]

[11] For through your knowledge he who is weak is ruined, the brother for whose sake Christ died. [1Co 8:11 LSB]

Paul Gives Up His Rights

[14] So also the Lord directed those who proclaim the gospel to get their living from the gospel. [1Co 9:14 LSB]

[9] "Do not acquire gold, or silver, or copper for your money belts,
[10] or a bag for [your] journey, or even two tunics, or sandals, or a staff; for the worker is worthy of his support.
[Mat 10:9-10 LSB]

[19] For though I am free from all, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I may win more. [1Co 9:19 LSB]

[26] Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air;
[27] but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.
[1Co 9:26-27 LSB]
