Jeremiah 13-15

The Ruined Belt

Jer 13:7 LSB - [7] Then I went to the Euphrates and dug, and I took the belt from the place where I had hidden it; and behold, the belt was ruined; it was totally worthless.

Jer 13:11 LSB - [11] 'For as the belt clings to the loins of a man, so I made the whole household of Israel and the whole household of Judah cling to Me,' declares Yahweh, 'that they might be for Me a people, for a name, for praise, and for beauty; but they did not listen.'

The Magnitude of Israel’s Iniquity

Jer 13:27 LSB - [27] "As for your adulteries and your [lustful] neighings, The lewdness of your prostitution On the hills in the field, I have seen your detestable things. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! How long will you not cleanse yourself?"

Yahweh Will Not Listen to Their Cry

Jer 14:11-12 LSB -
[11] So Yahweh said to me, "Do not pray for the good of this people.
[12] "When they fast, I am not going to listen to their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and grain offering, I am not going to accept them. Rather I am going to make an end of them by the sword, famine, and pestilence."

Lying Prophets

Yahweh Appoints Four Kinds of Doom

Jer 15:1-2 LSB -
[1] Then Yahweh said to me, "Even though Moses and Samuel were to stand before Me, My soul would not be with this people; send them away from My presence and let them go!
[2] "And it will be that when they say to you, 'Where should we go?' then you are to tell them, 'Thus says Yahweh: "Those [destined] for death, to death; And those [destined] for the sword, to the sword; And those [destined] for famine, to famine; And those [destined] for captivity, to captivity."'

Jeremiah Pleads for Vengeance

Jer 15:16 LSB - [16] Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your words became for me joy and gladness in my heart, For I have been called by Your name, O Yahweh God of hosts.

Yahweh’s Answer

Jer 15:19 ESV - [19] Therefore thus says the LORD: "If you return, I will restore you, and you shall stand before me. If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless, you shall be as my mouth. They shall turn to you, but you shall not turn to them.
