Hosea 1-5

Hosea’s Wife and Children

[4] And the LORD said to him, "Call his name Jezreel, for in just a little while I will punish the house of Jehu for the blood of Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel. [Hos 1:4 ESV]

[6] She conceived again and bore a daughter. And the LORD said to him, "Call her name No Mercy, for I will no more have mercy on the house of Israel, to forgive them at all. [Hos 1:6 ESV]

[9] And the LORD said, "Call his name Not My People, for you are not my people, and I am not your God." [Hos 1:9 ESV]

[10]  Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or numbered. And in the place where it was said to them, "You are not my people," it shall be said to them, "Children of the living God." [Hos 1:10 ESV]

Israel’s Unfaithfulness Punished

[1]  Say to your brothers, "You are my people," and to your sisters, "You have received mercy." 

[2] "Plead with your mother, plead-- for she is not my wife, and I am not her husband-- that she put away her whoring from her face, and her adultery from between her breasts; 

[Hos 2:1-2 ESV]

[8] And she did not know that it was I who gave her the grain, the wine, and the oil, and who lavished on her silver and gold, which they used for Baal. [Hos 2:8 ESV]

Yahweh’s Faithful Betrothal

[16] "And in that day, declares the LORD, you will call me 'My Husband,' and no longer will you call me 'My Baal.' [Hos 2:16 ESV]

[21] "And in that day I will answer, declares the LORD, I will answer the heavens, and they shall answer the earth, 

[22] and the earth shall answer the grain, the wine, and the oil, and they shall answer Jezreel, 

[23] and I will sow her for myself in the land. And I will have mercy on No Mercy, and I will say to Not My People, 'You are my people'; and he shall say, 'You are my God.'"

Hosea Marries Again

[1] Then Yahweh said to me, "Go again, love a woman [who] is loved by [her] companion and is an adulteress, even as Yahweh loves the sons of Israel, though they turn to other gods and love raisin cakes." [Hos 3:1 LSB]

Yahweh’s Contention with Israel

[1] Listen to the word of Yahweh, O sons of Israel, For Yahweh has a contention against the inhabitants of the land, Because there is no truth or lovingkindness Or knowledge of God in the land.

Yahweh Withdraws from Israel

[15] I will go away [and] return to My place Until they acknowledge their guilt and seek My face; In their affliction they will seek Me earnestly. [Hos 5:15 LSB]

Amos 6-9

Woe to Those at Ease in Zion

[8] Lord Yahweh has sworn by Himself, Yahweh God of hosts has declared: "I abhor the lofty pride of Jacob And hate his citadels; Therefore I will deliver up [the] city as well as its fullness." [Amo 6:8 LSB]

[13] For when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, [Heb 6:13 LSB]

[12] Do horses run on rocks? Or does one plow them with oxen? Yet you have overturned justice into gall And the fruit of righteousness into wormwood, [Amo 6:12 LSB]

Yahweh Will Rise Up Against Israel

[2] And it happened when it had completed eating the vegetation of the land, that I said, "Lord Yahweh, please pardon! How can Jacob rise up, For he is small?" 

[3] Yahweh relented concerning this. "It shall not be," said Yahweh.

[5] Then I said, "Lord Yahweh, please stop! How can Jacob rise up, for he is small?" 

[6] Yahweh relented concerning this. "This too shall not be," said Lord Yahweh.

[6] "For I, Yahweh, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed. [Mal 3:6 LSB]

Amos Accused

[14] Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, "I am not a prophet, nor am I the son of a prophet; for I am a herdsman and a grower of sycamore figs. 

[15] "But Yahweh took me from following the flock, and Yahweh said to me, 'Go prophesy to My people Israel.'

A Famine for Hearing the Words of Yahweh

[11] "Behold, days are coming," declares Lord Yahweh, 

"When I will send a famine on the land, 

Not a famine for bread or a thirst for water, 

But rather for hearing the words of Yahweh. 

[12] "People will wander from sea to sea 

And from the north even to the east; 

They will go to and fro to seek the word of Yahweh, 

But they will not find [it].

Sinful Israelites Will Die by the Sword

[5] Now Lord Yahweh of hosts, 

The One who touches the land so that it melts, 

And all those who inhabit it mourn, 

And all of it rises up like the Nile 

And subsides like the Nile of Egypt; 

[Amo 9:5 LSB]

[8] "Behold, the eyes of Lord Yahweh are on the sinful kingdom, 

And I will destroy it from the face of the earth; 

Nevertheless, I will not totally destroy the house of Jacob," 

Declares Yahweh.

Yahweh Will Rebuild Israel

[12] That they may possess the remnant of Edom 

And all the nations who are called by My name," 

Declares Yahweh who does this.

[16] 'AFTER THESE THINGS I will return, 

AND I WILL REBUILD THE FALLEN BOOTH OF DAVID, 

AND I WILL REBUILD ITS RUINS, AND I WILL RESTORE IT, 

[17] SO THAT THE REST OF MANKIND MAY SEEK THE LORD, 

AND ALL THE GENTILES WHO ARE CALLED BY MY NAME,' 

[18] SAYS THE LORD, WHO MAKES THESE THINGS KNOWN FROM LONG AGO.
