Jesus’ Warning

The Spirit Is Promised Again

Jhn 16:8-11 LSB - 

[8] "And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; 

[9] concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; 

[10] and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; 

[11] and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.

Sorrow Turned to Joy

Jhn 16:21-22 LSB - 

[21] "Whenever a woman is in labor she has sorrow, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the suffering because of the joy that a child has been born into the world. 

[22] "Therefore you too have sorrow now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one [will] take your joy away from you.

I Have Overcome the World

Jhn 16:32-33 LSB - 

[32] "Behold, an hour is coming, and has [already] come, for you to be scattered, each to his own [home], and to leave Me alone; and [yet] I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. 

[33] "These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world."

The High Priestly Prayer

Jhn 17:2-3 LSB - 

[2] even as You gave Him authority over all flesh, that to all whom You have given Him, He may give eternal life. 

[3] "And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

Jesus Prays for His Disciples

Jhn 17:6 LSB - [6] "I have manifested Your name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world; they were Yours and You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.

Jhn 17:9 LSB - [9] "I ask on their behalf; I do not ask on behalf of the world but of those whom You have given Me; for they are Yours;

[17] Then the servant-girl who kept the door said to Peter, "Are you not also [one] of this man's disciples?" He said, "I am not." ... 

[27] Peter then denied [it] again, and immediately a rooster crowed.

Jhn 18:37 LSB - [37] Therefore Pilate said to Him, "So You are a king?" Jesus answered, "You yourself said I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."
