Job 31-33

Job’s Final Appeal

[1] "I have cut a covenant with my eyes; How then could I gaze at a virgin?
[Job 31:1 LSB]

[37] Cause my eyes to turn away from looking at worthlessness, And revive me in Your ways.
[Psa 119:37 LSB]

[28] but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
[Mat 5:28 LSB]

Job 28-30

Where Can Wisdom Be Found?

[28] "So He said to man, 'Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to turn away from evil is understanding.'"
[Job 28:28 LSB]

[17] But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruits, without doubting, without hypocrisy.
[Jas 3:17 LSB]

Job Continues His Discourse

[2] "Oh that I were as in months gone by, As in the days when God kept me,
[3] When His lamp shone over my head, [And] by His light I walked through darkness,
[Job 29:2-3 LSB]

[16] "And now my soul is poured out within me; Days of affliction have seized me.
[17] "At night it pierces my bones within me, And my gnawing [pains] take no rest.
[Job 30:16-17 LSB]

Job 25-27

Bildad Asks, Can Man Be Right with God?

[4] "How then can mortal man be right with God? Or how can he be pure who is born of woman?
[5] "Behold even the moon has no brightness, And the stars are not pure in His sight;
[6] How much less mortal man, [that] maggot, And the son of man, [that] worm!"
[Job 25:4-6 LSB]

[2] "In truth I know that this is so; But how can a man be in the right before God?
[Job 9:2 LSB]

[19] Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are in the Law, so that every mouth may be shut and all the world may become accountable to God;
[20] because by the works of the Law NO FLESH WILL BE JUSTIFIED IN HIS SIGHT, for through the Law [comes] the knowledge of sin.
[Rom 3:19-20 LSB]

Who Can Understand God?

[12] "He quieted the sea with His power, And by His understanding He crushed Rahab.
[13] "By His breath the heavens are [made] beautiful; His hand has pierced the fleeing serpent.
[14] "Behold, these are the fringes of His ways; And how [only with] a whisper of a word do we hear of Him! But His mighty thunder, who can understand?"
[Job 26:12-14 LSB]

I Hold Fast My Righteousness

[3] For as long as breath is in me, And the spirit from God is in my nostrils,
[4] My lips certainly will not speak unrighteousness, Nor will my tongue utter deceit.
[Job 27:3-4 LSB]

Job 22-24

Eliphaz Says Job Must Repent

Where Is God?

[8] "Behold, I go forward but He is not [there], And backward, but I cannot discern Him;
[9] When He acts on the left, I cannot behold [Him]; He turns on the right, I cannot see Him.
[10] "But He knows the way I take; [When] He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.
[Job 23:8-10 LSB]

[14] "For He performs what is apportioned for me, And many such [decrees] are with Him.
[15] "Therefore, I would be dismayed at His presence; I carefully consider, and I am in dread of Him.
[16] "[It is] God [who] has made my heart faint, And the Almighty [who] has dismayed me,
[Job 23:14-16 LSB]

Who Can Prove Me a Liar?

[12] "From the city men groan, And the souls of the wounded cry out; Yet God does not pay attention to [such] offense.
[Job 24:12 LSB]

[31] KAPH For the Lord will not reject forever,
[32] For if He causes grief, Then He will have compassion According to His abundant lovingkindness.
[33] For He does not afflict from His heart Or grieve the sons of men.
[34] LAMEDH To crush under His feet All the prisoners of the land,
[35] To deprive a man of justice In the presence of the Most High,
[36] To defraud a man in his [legal] case-- These things the Lord does not see [with approval].
[Lam 3:31-36 LSB]

Job 19-21

My Redeemer Lives

[25] "As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last He will rise up over the dust [of this world].
[26] "Even after my skin is destroyed, Yet from my flesh I shall behold God,
[27] Whom I myself shall behold, And whom my eyes will see and not another. My heart faints within me!
[Job 19:25-27 LSB]

[14] Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Yahweh, my rock and my Redeemer. |
[Psa 19:14 LSB]

[8] Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
[Mat 5:8 LSB]

[12] For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.
[1Co 13:12 LSB]

[2] Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not been manifested as yet what we will be. We know that when He is manifested, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.
[1Jo 3:2 LSB]

Zophar Says the Joy of the Wicked Is Short

God Does Not Punish the Wicked

[22] "Can anyone teach God knowledge, In that He judges those on high?
[23] "One dies in his full strength, Being wholly carefree and at ease;
[24] His sides are filled out with fat, And the marrow of his bones is moist,
[25] But another dies with a bitter soul, Never even eats [anything] good.
[26] "Together they lie down in the dust, And worms cover them.

[Job 13:3 LSB]

[18] "Come now, and let us reason together," Says Yahweh, "Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool.
[Isa 1:18 LSB]

[15] "Though He slay me, I will hope in Him. Nevertheless I will argue my ways before Him.
[16] "This also will be my salvation, For a godless man may not come before His presence.
[Job 13:15-16 LSB]

If a Man Dies, Will He Live Again?

[10] "But man dies and lies prostrate. Man breathes his last, and where is he?
[11] "[As] water evaporates from the sea, And a river becomes parched and dried up,
[12] So man lies down and does not rise. Until the heavens are no longer, He will not awake nor be aroused out of his sleep.
[Job 14:10-12 LSB]

Eliphaz Says Job’s Lips Answer Against Him

[14] "What is man, that he should be pure, Or he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
[15] "Behold, He puts no faith in His holy ones, And the heavens are not pure in His sight;
[16] How much less one who is abominable and corrupt, Man, who drinks unrighteousness like water!
[Job 15:14-16 LSB]

[17] 'Can mankind be right before God? Can a man be pure before his Maker?
[18] 'He puts no trust even in His slaves; And against His angels He charges error.
[19] 'How much more those who dwell in houses of clay, Whose foundation is in the dust, Who are crushed before the moth!
[Job 4:17-19 LSB]

[8] 'Your hands fashioned and made me altogether, And would You swallow me up? ...
[10] 'Did You not pour me out like milk And curdle me like cheese,
[11] Clothe me with skin and flesh, And knit me together with bones and sinews?
[12] 'You have made alongside me life and lovingkindness; And Your care has kept my spirit.
[Job 10:8, 10-12 LSB]

[14] I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.

[8] "Or muse to the earth, and let it instruct you; And let the fish of the sea recount [it] to you.

Job 1-3

Job Was Greatest of the Sons of the East

[5] Now it happened when the days of feasting had completed their cycle, that Job would send and set them apart as holy. And he would rise up early in the morning and offer burnt offerings [according to] the number of them all; for Job said, "Perhaps my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." Thus Job did continually. [Job 1:5 LSB]

[8] Then Yahweh said to Satan, "Have you set your heart upon My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil." [Job 1:8 LSB]

[9] These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among [those in] his generations; Noah walked with God. [Gen 6:9 LSB]

All Job Has Is in Satan’s Hand

[12] Then Yahweh said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your hand, only do not send forth your hand toward him." So Satan went out from the presence of Yahweh. [Job 1:12 LSB]

Messengers Speak of the Fire of God

[20] Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head, and he fell to the ground and worshiped.
[21] And he said,
"Naked I came from my mother's womb,
And naked I shall return there.
Yahweh gave, and Yahweh has taken away.
Blessed be the name of Yahweh."
[22] Through all this Job did not sin, nor did he give offense to God. [Job 1:20-22 LSB]

Satan Strikes Job’s Flesh

[6] So Yahweh said to Satan, "Behold, he is in your hand, only spare his life." [Job 2:6 LSB]

[10] But he said to her, "You speak as one of the wickedly foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept calamity?" In all this Job did not sin with his lips. [Job 2:10 LSB]

Philippians 1-4

Thanksgiving

[3] I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, [4] always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, [5] because of your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now. [Phl 1:3-5 LSB]

[6] [For I am] confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. [Phl 1:6 LSB]

[9] And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in full knowledge and all discernment, [10] so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and without fault until the day of Christ, [11] having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which [comes] through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. [Phl 1:9-11 LSB]

The Progress of the Gospel

[18] What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice, [19] for I know that THIS WILL TURN OUT FOR MY SALVATION through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, [20] according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but [that] with all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. [Phl 1:18-20 LSB]

To Live Is Christ

[29] For to you it has been granted for Christ's sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake, [30] having the same struggle which you saw in me, and now hear [to be] in me. [Phl 1:29-30 LSB]

Christ’s Humility and Exaltation

[5] Have this [way of] thinking in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, [6] who, although existing in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, [7] but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a slave, by being made in the likeness of men. [8] Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. [Phl 2:5-8 LSB]

Timothy and Epaphroditus Sent

Righteousness Through Faith in Christ

[8] More than that, I count all things to be loss because of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ [9] and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own which is from [the] Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which [is] from God upon faith, [10] that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, [11] in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. [Phl 3:8-11 LSB]

Pressing On Toward the Goal

[13] Brothers, I do not consider myself as having laid hold of [it] yet, but one thing [I do]: forgetting what [lies] behind and reaching forward to what [lies] ahead, [14] I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. [Phl 3:13-14 LSB]

Rejoice in the Lord Always

[6] Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. [7] And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. [Phl 4:6-7 LSB]

God Will Fill Your Needs

[12] I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in abundance; in any and all things I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. [13] I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. [Phl 4:12-13 LSB]

The Song of Moses

[Deu 32:4 LSB] 4 "The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.

[Deu 32:39 LSB] 39 'See now that I, I am He, And there is no god besides Me; It is I who put to death and give life. I have wounded, and it is I who heal, And there is no one who can deliver from My hand.

Moses To Go Up Mount Nebo

[Deu 32:51 LSB] 51 because you [both] acted unfaithfully with Me in the midst of the sons of Israel at the waters of Meribah-kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin, because you [both] did not treat Me as holy in the midst of the sons of Israel.

[Num 20:11-12 LSB] 11 Then Moses raised high his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation and their beasts drank. 12 But Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not believe Me, to treat Me as holy in the sight of the sons of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them."

Deuteronomy 28-30

Blessings for Keeping the Commandments

[1] "Now it will be, if you diligently listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I am commanding you today, Yahweh your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. [2] "And all these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you listen to the voice of Yahweh your God: [Deu 28:1-2 LSB]

Curses for Not Keeping the Commandments

[15] "But it will be, if you do not listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, to keep [and] to do all His commandments and His statutes with which I am commanding you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you: [Deu 28:15 LSB]

[53] "Then you shall eat the offspring of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters whom Yahweh your God has given you, during the siege and the distress by which your enemy will oppress you. [Deu 28:53 LSB]

[28] And the king said to her, "What is the matter with you?" And she said, "This woman said to me, 'Give your son that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.' [29] "So we boiled my son and ate him; and I said to her on the next day, 'Give your son, that we may eat him'; but she has hidden her son." [2Ki 6:28-29 LSB]

[64] "Moreover, Yahweh will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth; and there you shall serve other gods, wood and stone, which you or your fathers have not known. [Deu 28:64 LSB]

[6] In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria and took Israel away into exile to Assyria, and settled them in Halah and Habor, [on] the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes. [2Ki 17:6 LSB]

[11] Then the rest of the people who were left in the city and the defectors who had defected to the king of Babylon and the rest of the multitude, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took away into exile. [2Ki 25:11 LSB]

The Covenant in Moab

[4] "Yet to this day Yahweh has not given you a heart to know, nor eyes to see, nor ears to hear. [Deu 29:4 LSB]

[14] Indeed, in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says: "'"You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive." [15] For this people's heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.' [Mat 13:14-15 ESV]

Repentance and Forgiveness

[6] And the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, so that you will love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. [Deu 30:6 ESV]

The Choice of Life and Death

[11] "For this commandment which I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it far [from you]. [12] "It is not in heaven, that you should say, 'Who will go up to heaven for us and get it for us and make us hear it, that we may do it?' [13] "Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, 'Who will cross the sea for us and get it for us and make us hear it, that we may do it?' [14] "But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it. [Deu 30:11-14 LSB]

[6] But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way: "DO NOT SAY IN YOUR HEART, 'WHO WILL GO UP INTO HEAVEN?' (that is, to bring Christ down), [7] or 'WHO WILL GO DOWN INTO THE ABYSS?' (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead)." [8] But what does it say? "THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART"--that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, [9] that if you confess with your mouth Jesus [as] Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; [10] for with the heart a person believes, leading to righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, leading to salvation. [Rom 10:6-10 LSB]

Choose Life

[19] "I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your seed, [20] by loving Yahweh your God, by listening to His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them." [Deu 30:19-20 LSB]

[7] Who at any time serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not consume the fruit of it? Or who shepherds a flock and does not consume the milk of the flock? [8] Am I speaking these things according to human judgment? Or does not the Law also say these things? [9] For it is written in the Law of Moses, "YOU SHALL NOT MUZZLE THE OX WHILE IT IS THRESHING." Is God [merely] concerned about oxen? [1Co 9:7-9 LSB]
