Romans 4-6 - Dead to Sin, Alive to God

Abraham Justified by Faith

Rom 4:3 LSB - [3] For what does the Scripture say? "ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS COUNTED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS."

Rom 4:10-12 LSB -
[10] How then was it counted? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised;
[11] and he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while uncircumcised, so that he might be the father of all who believe without being circumcised, that righteousness might be counted to them,
[12] and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also follow in the steps of the faith of our father Abraham which he had while uncircumcised.

Rom 4:16-17 LSB -
[16] For this reason [it is] by faith, in order that [it may be] according to grace, so that the promise will be guaranteed to all the seed, not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all--
[17] as it is written, "A FATHER OF MANY NATIONS HAVE I MADE YOU"--in the presence of Him whom he believed, [even] God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist.

Results of Justification by Faith

Rom 5:1-5 LSB -
[1] Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
[2] through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we boast in hope of the glory of God.
[3] And not only this, but we also boast in our afflictions, knowing that affliction brings about perseverance
[4] and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope
[5] and hope does not put to shame, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Rom 5:8 LSB - [8] But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Rom 5:9 LSB - [9] Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath [of God] through Him.

The Gift of Righteousness in Christ

Rom 5:12-13 LSB - [12] Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned-- [13] for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

Rom 5:16 LSB - [16] And the gift is not like [that which came] through the one who sinned; for on the one hand the judgment [arose] from one [transgression] resulting in condemnation, but on the other hand the gracious gift [arose] from many transgressions resulting in justification.

Jas 2:10 LSB - [10] For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one [point], he has become guilty of all.

Rom 5:17 LSB - [17] For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

Rom 5:18-19 LSB -
[18] So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men.
[19] For as through the one man's disobedience the many were appointed sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be appointed righteous.

Dead to Sin, Alive to God

Rom 6:3 LSB - [3] Or do you not know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?

Rom 6:4 LSB - [4] Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.

Rom 6:5-7 LSB -
[5] For if we have become united with [Him] in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be [in the likeness] of His resurrection
[6] knowing this, that our old man was crucified with [Him], in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;
[7] for he who has died has been justified from sin.

Rom 6:8-10 LSB -
[8] Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,
[9] knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him.
[10] For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all, but the life that He lives, He lives to God.

Slaves of Righteousness

Rom 6:22-23 LSB -
[22] But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you have your benefit, leading to sanctification, and the end, eternal life.
[23] For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
