Deuteronomy 28-30

Blessings for Keeping the Commandments

[1] "Now it will be, if you diligently listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I am commanding you today, Yahweh your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. [2] "And all these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you listen to the voice of Yahweh your God: [Deu 28:1-2 LSB]

Curses for Not Keeping the Commandments

[15] "But it will be, if you do not listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, to keep [and] to do all His commandments and His statutes with which I am commanding you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you: [Deu 28:15 LSB]

[53] "Then you shall eat the offspring of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters whom Yahweh your God has given you, during the siege and the distress by which your enemy will oppress you. [Deu 28:53 LSB]

[28] And the king said to her, "What is the matter with you?" And she said, "This woman said to me, 'Give your son that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.' [29] "So we boiled my son and ate him; and I said to her on the next day, 'Give your son, that we may eat him'; but she has hidden her son." [2Ki 6:28-29 LSB]

[64] "Moreover, Yahweh will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth; and there you shall serve other gods, wood and stone, which you or your fathers have not known. [Deu 28:64 LSB]

[6] In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria and took Israel away into exile to Assyria, and settled them in Halah and Habor, [on] the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes. [2Ki 17:6 LSB]

[11] Then the rest of the people who were left in the city and the defectors who had defected to the king of Babylon and the rest of the multitude, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took away into exile. [2Ki 25:11 LSB]

The Covenant in Moab

[4] "Yet to this day Yahweh has not given you a heart to know, nor eyes to see, nor ears to hear. [Deu 29:4 LSB]

[14] Indeed, in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says: "'"You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive." [15] For this people's heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.' [Mat 13:14-15 ESV]

Repentance and Forgiveness

[6] And the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, so that you will love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. [Deu 30:6 ESV]

The Choice of Life and Death

[11] "For this commandment which I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it far [from you]. [12] "It is not in heaven, that you should say, 'Who will go up to heaven for us and get it for us and make us hear it, that we may do it?' [13] "Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, 'Who will cross the sea for us and get it for us and make us hear it, that we may do it?' [14] "But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it. [Deu 30:11-14 LSB]

[6] But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way: "DO NOT SAY IN YOUR HEART, 'WHO WILL GO UP INTO HEAVEN?' (that is, to bring Christ down), [7] or 'WHO WILL GO DOWN INTO THE ABYSS?' (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead)." [8] But what does it say? "THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART"--that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, [9] that if you confess with your mouth Jesus [as] Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; [10] for with the heart a person believes, leading to righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, leading to salvation. [Rom 10:6-10 LSB]

Choose Life

[19] "I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your seed, [20] by loving Yahweh your God, by listening to His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them." [Deu 30:19-20 LSB]
