Josiah Reigns over Judah
[2] And he did what was right in the sight of Yahweh and walked in the ways of his father David and did not turn aside to the right or to the left. [2Ch 34:1-2 LSB]
Josiah Repairs the House of Yahweh
[8] Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had cleansed the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah an official of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of Yahweh his God. [2Ch 34:8 LSB]
Hilkiah Finds the Book of the Law
[19] Now it happened that when the king heard the words of the law, he tore his clothes.
[20] Then the king commanded Hilkiah, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Abdon the son of Micah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying,
[21] "Go, inquire of Yahweh for me and those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book which has been found, for great is the wrath of Yahweh which is poured out against us, because our fathers have not kept the word of Yahweh, to do according to all that is written in this book." [2Ch 34:19-21 LSB]
Josiah Will Not See Yahweh’s Wrath
[30] And the king went up to the house of Yahweh and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests and the Levites and all the people, from the greatest to the least; and he read in their hearing all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of Yahweh. [2Ch 34:30 LSB]
Josiah Cuts a Covenant with Yahweh
[30] And the king went up to the house of Yahweh and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests and the Levites and all the people, from the greatest to the least; and he read in their hearing all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of Yahweh.
[31] Then the king stood in his place and cut a covenant before Yahweh, to walk after Yahweh, and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes with all his heart and with all his soul, to do the words of the covenant that were written in this book.
[32] Moreover, he made all who were present in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand [with him]. So the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.
[33] And Josiah took away all the abominations from all the lands belonging to the sons of Israel, and made all who were present in Israel to serve Yahweh their God. Throughout his lifetime they did not turn away from following Yahweh, the God of their fathers. [2Ch 34:30-33 LSB]
Josiah Celebrates the Passover
[18] And there had not been celebrated a Passover like it in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet; nor had any of the kings of Israel celebrated such a Passover as Josiah celebrated with the priests, the Levites, all Judah and Israel who were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. [2Ch 35:18 LSB]
Josiah Dies in War
[22] However, Josiah would not turn away from him, but disguised himself in order to make war with him; nor did he listen to the words of Neco from the mouth of God, but came to make war on the plain of Megiddo. [2Ch 35:22 LSB]
[25] Then Jeremiah chanted a [lament] for Josiah. And all the male and female singers speak about Josiah in their lamentations to this day. And they made them a statute in Israel; behold, they are also written in the lamentations. [2Ch 35:25 LSB]
Joahaz Reigns over Judah
[2] Joahaz was twenty-three years old when he became king, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. [2Ch 36:2 LSB]
Jehoiakim Reigns over Judah
[5] Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem; and he did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh his God. [2Ch 36:5 LSB]
Jehoiachin Reigns over Judah
[9] Jehoiachin was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem, and he did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh. [2Ch 36:6, 9 LSB]
Zedekiah Reigns over Judah
[11] Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem.
[12] And he did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh his God; he did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet [who spoke] from the mouth of Yahweh. [2Ch 36:11-12 LSB]
The Chaldeans Destroy Jerusalem
[15] And Yahweh, the God of their fathers, sent [word] to them again and again by the hand of His messengers, because He had compassion on His people and on His habitation;
[16] but they [continually] mocked the messengers of God, despised His words and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of Yahweh arose against His people, until there was no remedy. [2Ch 36:15-16 LSB]
[20] And those who had escaped from the sword he took away into exile to Babylon; and they were slaves to him and to his sons until the rule of the kingdom of Persia,
[21] to fulfill the word of Yahweh by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had made up for its sabbaths. All the days of its desolation it kept sabbath until seventy years were fulfilled. [2Ch 36:20-21 LSB]
[4] but during the seventh year the land shall have a sabbath rest, a sabbath to Yahweh; you shall not sow your field nor prune your vineyard.
[5] 'What grows of its own accord from your harvest you shall not reap, and your grapes of untrimmed vines you shall not gather; the land shall have a sabbatical year.
[6] 'And the sabbath [produce] of the land shall be for food; for you and your male and female slaves and your hired man and your foreign resident, those who sojourn with you. [Lev 25:4-6 LSB]
The Proclamation of Cyrus
[22] Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia--in order to complete the word of Yahweh by the mouth of Jeremiah--Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he had a proclamation pass throughout all his kingdom, and also [put it] in writing, saying,
[23] "Thus says Cyrus king of Persia, 'Yahweh, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and He has appointed me to build Him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever there is among you of all His people, may Yahweh his God be with him, and let him go up!'" [2Ch 36:22-23 LSB]
