Hebrews 1-3

God’s Final Word in His Son

[2] in these last days spoke to us in [His] Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds, [3] who is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power; who, having accomplished cleansing for sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, [4] having become so much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they. [Heb 1:2-4 LSB]

[1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2] He was in the beginning with God. [3] All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. [4] In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. [Jhn 1:1-4 LSB]

[5] For to which of the angels did He ever say, "YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU"? And again, "I WILL BE A FATHER TO HIM AND HE SHALL BE A SON TO ME"? [Heb 1:5 LSB]

[7] "I will surely tell of the decree of Yahweh: He said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. [Psa 2:7 LSB]

[13] "I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; and I will not remove My lovingkindness from him, as I removed [it] from him who was before you. [1Ch 17:13 LSB]

[26] "He will call to Me, 'You are my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.' [27] "I also shall make him [My] firstborn, The highest of the kings of the earth. [Psa 89:26-27 LSB]

Warning Against Neglecting Salvation

[1] For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away. [Heb 2:1 LSB]

Jesus, the Author of Salvation

[9] But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels--Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. [10] For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings. [Heb 2:9-10 LSB]

[14] Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, [15] and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. [Heb 2:14-15 LSB]

[17] Therefore, He had to be made like His brothers in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. [18] For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to help those who are tempted. [Heb 2:17-18 LSB]

Jesus Greater than Moses

[7] Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, [8] DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME, AS IN THE DAY OF TRIAL IN THE WILDERNESS, [Heb 3:7-8 LSB]

Warning Against Unbelief

[13] But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is [still] called "TODAY," so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. [14] For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end, [15] while it is said, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS, AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME." [Heb 3:13-15 LSB]
