Leviticus 1-3

The Statutes of Burnt Offerings

[4] 'And he shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, that it may be accepted for him to make atonement on his behalf. [5] 'Then he shall slaughter the young bull before Yahweh; and Aaron's sons the priests shall bring near the blood and splash the blood around on the altar that is at the doorway of the tent of meeting. The Statutes of Grain Offerings

[13] 'Every grain offering of yours, moreover, you shall season with salt, so that the salt of the covenant of your God shall not be lacking from your grain offering; with all your offerings you shall bring salt near. [Lev 2:13 LSB]

The Statutes of Peace Offerings

[16] 'And the priest shall offer them up in smoke on the altar [as] food, an offering by fire for a soothing aroma; all fat is Yahweh's. [17] 'It is a perpetual statute throughout your generations in all your [places of] habitation: you shall not eat any fat or any blood.'" [Lev 3:16-17 LSB]

Hebrews 10-13

Christ’s Sacrifice Once for All

[1] For the Law, since it has [only] a shadow of the good things to come [and] not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near. ... [4] For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. [Heb 10:1, 4 LSB]

[5] Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says, "SACRIFICE AND OFFERING YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, BUT A BODY YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME; [6] IN BURNT OFFERINGS AND [sacrifices] FOR SIN YOU HAVE TAKEN NO PLEASURE. [7] "THEN I SAID, 'BEHOLD, I HAVE COME, IN THE SCROLL OF THE BOOK IT IS WRITTEN OF ME, TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD.'" [Heb 10:5-7 LSB]

[10] By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. [Heb 10:10 LSB]

[12] but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, SAT DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD, [13] waiting from that time UNTIL HIS ENEMIES ARE PUT AS A FOOTSTOOL FOR HIS FEET. [Heb 10:12-13 LSB]

[15] And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying, [16] "THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS UPON THEIR HEART, AND ON THEIR MIND I WILL WRITE THEM," [He then says], [17] "AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE." [24] And let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, [25] not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging [one another], and all the more as you see the day drawing near. [Heb 10:24-25 LSB]

A New and Living Way

[19] Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, [20] by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, [21] and since [we have] a great priest over the house of God, [22] let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Warning Against Willful Sin

[36] For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise. [37] FOR YET IN A VERY LITTLE WHILE, HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME, AND WILL NOT DELAY. [38] BUT MY RIGHTEOUS ONE SHALL LIVE BY FAITH, AND IF HE SHRINKS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM. [39] But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul. [Heb 36-39 LSB]

By Faith

[1] Now faith is the assurance of [things] hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. [Heb 11:1 LSB]

[6] And without faith it is impossible to please [Him], for he who draws near to God must believe that He is and [that] He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. [Heb 11:6 LSB]

[16] But now, they aspire to a better [country], that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He prepared a city for them. [Heb 11:16 LSB]

[39] And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised, [40] because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be made perfect. [Heb 11:39-40 LSB]

Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of Faith

[2] fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. [Heb 12:2 LSB]

The Father’s Discipline

[6] FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE FLOGS EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES." [Heb 12:6 LSB]

[12] For whom Yahweh loves He reproves, Even as a father [reproves] the son in whom he delights. [Pro 3:12 LSB]

[11] And all discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful, but to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. [Heb 12:11 LSB]

Contrast of Sinai and Zion

[18] For you have not come to [a mountain] that can be touched and to a blazing fire, and to darkness and gloom and whirlwind, [Heb 12:18 LSB]

[22] But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels, [23] to the festal gathering and assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of [the] righteous made perfect, [24] and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks better than [the blood] of Abel. An Unshakable Kingdom

[25] See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned [them] on earth, much less [will] we [escape] who turn away from Him who [warns] from heaven. [Heb 12:25 LSB]

[28] Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; [29] for OUR GOD IS A CONSUMING FIRE. [Heb 12:28-29 LSB]

Sacrifices Pleasing to God

[1] Let love of the brothers continue. [Heb 13:1 LSB]

[8] Jesus Christ [is] the same yesterday and today and forever. [Heb 13:8 LSB]

[12] Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people through His own blood, suffered outside the gate. [13] So, let us go out to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach. [14] For here we do not have a lasting city, but we are seeking [the one] to come. [Heb 13:12-14 LSB]

[16] And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. [Heb 13:16 LSB]

Benediction

[20] Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, our Lord Jesus, [21] equip you in every good thing to do His will, by doing in us what is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom [be] the glory forever and ever. Hebrews 7-9

The Priesthoods of Melchizedek and Christ

[17] For it is witnessed [about Him], "YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK." [Heb 7:17 LSB]

[1] Of David. A Psalm. Yahweh says to my Lord: "Sit at My right hand Until I put Your enemies as a footstool for Your feet." ... [4] Yahweh has sworn and will not change His mind, "You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek." [Psa 110:1, 4 LSB]

[25] Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. [Heb 7:25 LSB]

Jesus, High Priest of a New Covenant

[1] Now the main point in what is being said [is this]: we have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, [2] a minister in the holy places and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man. [Heb 8:1-2 LSB]

[7] For if that first [covenant] had been faultless, there would have been no occasion sought for a second. ... [13] When He said, "A new [covenant]," He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear. [Heb 8:7, 13 LSB]

[33] "But this is the covenant which I will cut with the house of Israel after those days," declares Yahweh: "I will put My law within them, and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. [Jer 31:33 LSB]

[19] "And I will give them one heart and give within them a new spirit. And I will take the heart of stone out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh, [20] that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them. Then they will be My people, and I shall be their God. [Eze 11:19-20 LSB]

The Old Covenant

[9] which [is] a symbol for the present time. Accordingly both gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot make the worshiper perfect in conscience, [Heb 9:9 LSB]

The New Covenant

[11] But when Christ appeared [as] a high priest of the good things to come, [He entered] through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation, [12] and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy places once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. [28] so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without [reference to] sin, to those who eagerly await Him. [Heb 9:28 LSB]

Hebrews 4-6

The Believer’s Rest

[18] And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who were disobedient? [19] [So] we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief. [Heb 3:18-19 LSB]

[1] Therefore, let us fear, lest, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have fallen short of it. [2] For indeed we have had good news proclaimed to us, just as they also; but the word that was heard did not profit those who were not united with faith among those who heard. [Heb 4:1-2 LSB]

[6] Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news proclaimed to them failed to enter because of disobedience, [7] He again determines a certain day, "TODAY," saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS." [Heb 4:6-7 LSB]

[9] So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. [10] For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. [11] Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall into the same example of disobedience. [Heb 4:9-11 LSB]

[28] "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. [29] "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. [Mat 11:28-29 LSB]

[12] For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. [13] And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are uncovered and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom we have an account [to give]. [Heb 4:12-13 LSB]

Jesus Our Great High Priest

[14] Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us take hold of our confession. [15] For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things like [we are, yet] without sin. [16] Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. [Heb 4:14-16 LSB]

[5] In this way also Christ did not glorify Himself to become a high priest, but He who said to Him, "YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU"; [6] just as He says also in another [passage], "YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK." [Heb 5:5-6 LSB]

[7] He, in the days of His flesh, offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence. [Heb 5:7 LSB]

[8] Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. [9] And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation, [10] being designated by God as a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek. [Heb 5:8-10 LSB]

Warning Against Falling Away

[4] For in the case of those once having been enlightened and having tasted of the heavenly gift and having become partakers of the Holy Spirit, [5] and having tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, [6] and having fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame. [Heb 6:4-6 LSB]

The Inheritance of the Promises

[9] But we are convinced about you, beloved, of things that are better and that belong to salvation, though we are speaking in this way. [10] For God is not unrighteous so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and continuing to minister to the saints. [Heb 6:9-10 LSB]

[19] This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a [hope] both sure and confirmed and one which enters within the veil, [20] where a forerunner has entered for us--Jesus, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. [Heb 19-20 LSB]

Hebrews 1-3

God’s Final Word in His Son

[2] in these last days spoke to us in [His] Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds, [3] who is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power; who, having accomplished cleansing for sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, [4] having become so much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they. [1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2] He was in the beginning with God. [3] All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. [4] In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. [Jhn 1:1-4 LSB]

[5] For to which of the angels did He ever say, "YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU"? And again, "I WILL BE A FATHER TO HIM AND HE SHALL BE A SON TO ME"? [Heb 1:5 LSB]

[7] "I will surely tell of the decree of Yahweh: He said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. [Psa 2:7 LSB]

[13] "I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; and I will not remove My lovingkindness from him, as I removed [it] from him who was before you. [1Ch 17:13 LSB]

[26] "He will call to Me, 'You are my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.' [27] "I also shall make him [My] firstborn, The highest of the kings of the earth. [Psa 89:26-27 LSB]

Warning Against Neglecting Salvation

[1] For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away. [Heb 2:1 LSB]

Jesus, the Author of Salvation

[9] But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels--Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. [10] For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings. [14] Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, [15] and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. [17] Therefore, He had to be made like His brothers in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. Jesus Greater than Moses

[7] Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, [8] DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME, AS IN THE DAY OF TRIAL IN THE WILDERNESS, [Heb 3:7-8 LSB]

Warning Against Unbelief

[13] But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is [still] called "TODAY," so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. [14] For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end, [15] while it is said, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS, AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME." Exodus 37-40

Making the Ark of the Testimony

Stone Tablets Like the Former Ones

Moses and the Tent of Meeting

[9] And it happened whenever Moses entered the tent, that the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent; and Yahweh would speak with Moses. [Exo 33:9 LSB]
