Isaiah 40-42

The Glory of Yahweh Will Be Revealed

Isaiah 40:1-5 LSB — “Comfort, O comfort My people,” says your God. “Speak to the heart of Jerusalem;
And call out to her, that her warfare has been fulfilled,
That her iniquity has been removed,
That she has received from the hand of Yahweh
Double for all her sins.” A voice is calling,
“Prepare the way for Yahweh in the wilderness;
Make smooth in the desert a highway for our God. “Let every valley be lifted up,
And every mountain and hill be made low;
And let the rough ground become a plain,
And the rugged terrain a broad valley; Then the glory of Yahweh will be revealed,
And all flesh will see it together;
For the mouth of Yahweh has spoken.”

Isaiah 40:6-8 LSB — A voice says, “Call out.”
Then he answered, “What shall I call out?”
All flesh is grass, and all its lovingkindness is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades,
When the breath of Yahweh blows upon it;
Surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades,
But the word of our God stands forever.

Do Not Fear, for I Am with You

Isaiah 41:13-14 LSB — “For I am Yahweh your God, who strongly takes hold of your right hand,
Who says to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.’ “Do not fear, you worm Jacob, you men of Israel;
I will help you,” declares Yahweh, “and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.

Yahweh’s Chosen Servant

Isaiah 42:1-3 LSB — “Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold;
My chosen one in whom My soul is well-pleased.
I have put My Spirit upon Him;
He will bring forth justice to the nations. “He will not cry out or raise His voice,
Nor make His voice heard in the street. “A crushed reed He will not break
And a faintly burning wick He will not extinguish;
He will bring forth justice in truth.

Isaiah 42:6-7 LSB — “I am Yahweh, I have called You in righteousness;
I will also take hold of You by the hand and guard You,
And I will give You as a covenant to the people,
As a light to the nations, To open blind eyes,
To bring out prisoners from the dungeon
And those who inhabit darkness from the prison.

Israel’s Blindness and Deafness
