Abba! Father! - Romans 7-9

Released from the Law

[4] So, my brothers, you also were made to die to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you might be joined to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. [Rom 7:4 LSB]

[6] But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were constrained, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter.
[Rom 7:6 LSB]

The Conflict of Two Natures

[22] For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man,
[23] but I see a different law in my members, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a captive to the law of sin which is in my members.
[Rom 7:22-23 LSB]

[25] Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin.
[Rom 7:25 LSB]

The Spirit of God Dwells in You

[1] Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
[2] For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
[3] For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God [did]: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and [as an offering] for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,
[4] so that the righteous requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
[Rom 8:1-4 LSB]

[10] But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.
[11] But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
[Rom 8:10-11 LSB]

[14] For as many as are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
[15] For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received [the] Spirit of adoption as sons by whom we cry out, "Abba! Father!"
[16] The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,
[17] and if children, also heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with [Him] so that we may also be glorified with [Him].
[Rom 8:14-17 LSB]

Present Suffering and Future Glory

[26] And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for [us] with groanings too deep for words;
[27] and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to [the will of] God.
[Rom 8:26-27 LSB]

[28] And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to [His] purpose.
[29] Because those whom He foreknew, He also predestined [to become] conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers;
[30] and those whom He predestined, He also called; and those whom He called, He also justified; and those whom He justified, He also glorified. [Rom 8:28-30 LSB]

God Is for Us

[37] But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.
[38] For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
[39] nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
[Rom 8:37-39 LSB]

God’s Chosen People, Israel

[6] But [it is] not as though the word of God has failed. For they are not all Israel who are [descended] from Israel;
[7] nor are they all children because they are Abraham's seed, but: "THROUGH ISAAC YOUR SEED WILL BE NAMED."
[8] That is, the children of the flesh are not the children of God, but the children of the promise are considered as seed.
[Rom 9:6-8 LSB]

[15] For He says to Moses, "I WILL HAVE MERCY ON WHOM I HAVE MERCY, AND I WILL HAVE COMPASSION ON WHOM I HAVE COMPASSION."
[16] So then it [does] not [depend] on the one who wills or the one who runs, but on God who has mercy.
[Rom 9:15-16 LSB]

[18] So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires.
[Rom 9:18 LSB]

[27] And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel, "THOUGH THE NUMBER OF THE SONS OF ISRAEL BE LIKE THE SAND OF THE SEA, IT IS THE REMNANT THAT WILL BE SAVED;
[Rom 9:27 LSB]

[30] What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, laid hold of righteousness, even the righteousness which is by faith;
[31] but Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, did not attain [that] law.
[Rom 9:30-31 LSB]
