Judges 4-6 - I Will Remain Until You Return

Yahweh Raises Up Deborah and Barak

Jdg 4:9 LSB - [9] So she said, "I will surely go with you; nevertheless, the honor shall not be yours on the journey that you are about to take, for Yahweh will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman." Then Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh.

Jdg 4:21 LSB - [21] Then Jael, Heber's wife, took a tent peg and placed a hammer in her hand and went secretly to him and drove the peg into his temple, and it went through into the ground; for he was sound asleep and exhausted. So he died.

The Song of Deborah and Barak

Jdg 5:1 LSB - [1] Then Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam sang on that day, saying,

“Deborah sang concerning the overthrow of Israel’s enemies, and the deliverance vouchsafed to the tribes: we have a far richer theme for music; we have been delivered from worse enemies, and saved by a greater salvation. Let our gratitude be deeper; let our song be more jubilant.” (Spurgeon)

“When he had been most slandered — when the Pope had launched out a new bull, and when the kings of the earth had threatened him fiercely — Luther would gather together his friends, and say, ‘Come let us sing a psalm and spite the devil.’ He would ever sing the most psalms when the world roared the most.” (Spurgeon)

Midian Prevails Against Israel

Jdg 6:1 LSB - [1] Then the sons of Israel did what was evil in the eyes of Yahweh; and Yahweh gave them into the hands of Midian seven years.

Yahweh Sends Gideon to Save Israel

Jdg 6:18 LSB - [18] "Please do not depart from here until I come [back] to You, and I bring out my offering and lay it before You." And He said, "I will remain until you return.

Jdg 6:23-24 LSB - [23] And Yahweh said to him, "Peace to you. Do not fear; you shall not die." [24] So Gideon built an altar there to Yahweh and named it Yahweh is Peace. To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

Gideon Tears Down the Altar of Baal

Jdg 6:32 LSB - [32] Therefore on that day he named him Jerubbaal, that is to say, "Let Baal contend against him," because he had torn down his altar.

Jdg 6:32 ESV - [32] Therefore on that day Gideon was called Jerubbaal, that is to say, "Let Baal contend against him," because he broke down his altar.

Jdg 6:34 LSB - [34] But the Spirit of Yahweh clothed Gideon; and he blew a trumpet, and the Abiezrites were called together to follow him.
