Joshua 22-24 - You will not be able to serve Yahweh

Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh

An Altar Called Witness

Jos 22:10 LSB - [10] And they came to the region of the Jordan which is in the land of Canaan, and the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh built an altar there by the Jordan, a large altar in appearance.

Lev 17:8-9 LSB - [8] "Then you shall say to them, 'Any man from the house of Israel, or from the sojourners who sojourn among them, who offers a burnt offering or sacrifice, [9] and does not bring it to the doorway of the tent of meeting to offer it to Yahweh, that man also shall be cut off from his people.

Jos 22:34 LSB - [34] And the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad called the altar [Witness]; "For," [they said], "it is a witness between us that Yahweh is God."

Joshua Calls All Israel

Jos 23:6, 8, 11 LSB -
[6] "Be very strong, then, to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, so that you may not turn aside from it to the right hand or to the left, ...
[8] "But you are to cling to Yahweh your God, as you have done to this day. ...
[11] "So keep your souls very carefully to love Yahweh your God.

Jos 23:14 LSB - [14] "Now behold, today I am going the way of all the earth, and you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one word of all the good words which Yahweh your God spoke concerning you has failed; all have come to pass for you; not one word of them has failed.

Jos 23:16 LSB - [16] "When you trespass against the covenant of Yahweh your God, which He commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, then the anger of Yahweh will burn against you, and you will perish quickly from off the good land which He has given you."

Joshua Gathers Israel

Jos 24:1 LSB - [1] Then Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem and called for the elders of Israel and for their heads and their judges and their officers; and they presented themselves before God.

Jos 24:12-13 LSB - [12] 'Then I sent the hornet before you, and it drove out the two kings of the Amorites from before you, [but] not by your sword or your bow. [13] 'And I gave you a land on which you had not labored and cities which you had not built, and you have lived in them; you are eating of vineyards and olive groves which you did not plant.'

We Will Serve Yahweh Our God

Jos 24:14 LSB - [14] "So now, fear Yahweh and serve Him in integrity and truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve Yahweh.

Jos 24:15 LSB - [15] "If it is evil in your sight to serve Yahweh, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve Yahweh."

Jos 24:19 LSB - [19] Then Joshua said to the people, "You will not be able to serve Yahweh, for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your transgression or your sins.

Mat 6:24 LSB - [24] "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.

Joshua’s Death and Burial

Jos 24:31 LSB - [31] And Israel served Yahweh all the days of Joshua and all the days of the elders who survived Joshua, who knew all the work of Yahweh which He had done for Israel.
