In God we boast all the day long

Psalms 44:1-8 read:
We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, [what] work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.
[How] thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; [how] thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.
For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.
...
For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.
...
In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.
It has always been God's right hand, God's arm, and the light of God's countenance; it was never with my sword or arm that saved me. May I learn not to trust in my bow or sword. May I utterly experience that my bow or sword does not save me so that I may boast in God all the day long and praise His name forever.

Following the leading of the cloud

How easy and good it is when someone shows you what to do and where to go. How good would it be if the Lord God shows me the way and I simply follow him?

Numbers 9:16-23 read:
So it was alway: the cloud covered it [by day], and the appearance of fire by night.
And when the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle, then after that the children of Israel journeyed: and in the place where the cloud abode, there the children of Israel pitched their tents.
At the commandment of the LORD the children of Israel journeyed, and at the commandment of the LORD they pitched: as long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they rested in their tents.
And when the cloud tarried long upon the tabernacle many days, then the children of Israel kept the charge of the LORD, and journeyed not.
And [so] it was, when the cloud was a few days upon the tabernacle; according to the commandment of the LORD they abode in their tents, and according to the commandment of the LORD they journeyed.
And [so] it was, when the cloud abode from even unto the morning, and [that] the cloud was taken up in the morning, then they journeyed: whether [it was] by day or by night that the cloud was taken up, they journeyed.
Or [whether it were] two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle, remaining thereon, the children of Israel abode in their tents, and journeyed not: but when it was taken up, they journeyed.
At the commandment of the LORD they rested in the tents, and at the commandment of the LORD they journeyed: they kept the charge of the LORD, at the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
How wonderful it is to follow the leading of the Lord God? When the Lord God, the Good Shepherd, calls me by name, I listen and follow him.

John 10:2-5 read:
But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
I have been waiting for the leading of the Lord God concerning employment. The cloud is still tarrying and so shall I rest in the Lord God.

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee

This morning I have been listening to this beautiful song over and over.

Numbers 6:22 - 27 read:
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them,

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them.
The Lord puts His name upon us and blesses us.

I am the Lord your God, which ...

In Leviticus chapters 19 to 21, God reminds me who He is. He is the Lord. He is the Lord my God. He is the Lord my God, who ....

Exd 6:7 - I [am] the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

Lev 11:45 - For I [am] the LORD that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I [am] holy.

Lev 19:2 - Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God [am] holy.

Lev 20:7 - Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I [am] the LORD your God.

Lev 20:24 - I [am] the LORD your God, which have separated you from [other] people.

Lev 25:38 - I [am] the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, [and] to be your God.

Lev 26:13 - I [am] the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.

Num 15:41 - I [am] the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I [am] the LORD your God.
Psalm 18:2 reads, "The LORD [is] my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, [and] my high tower."

For I am the LORD your God

The Lord my God reminds me this morning that He is the Lord my God.

When the Lord my God saved me, He had a very clear purpose as shown in Exodus 6:7:
And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I [am] the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
In Leviticus, the Lord my God reminds me who He is and what I need to do. In Leviticus 11:44, God commands me to sanctify myself, be holy, and not to defile myself with any manner of the unsaved:
For I [am] the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I [am] holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
In Leviticus 19:10, the Lord my God commands me to care for the poor and stranger:
And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather [every] grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I [am] the LORD your God.
In Leviticus 19:34, the Lord my God commands me to love the stranger that dwells with me:
[But] the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I [am] the LORD your God.
In Leviticus 25:17, the Lord my God commands me not to oppress others, who are the servants unto the Lord my God, but to fear my God:
Ye shall not therefore oppress one another; but thou shalt fear thy God: for I [am] the LORD your God.
In Leviticus 26:1, the Lord my God commands me to not to worship idols:
Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up [any] image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I [am] the LORD your God.
May I "love the LORD [my] God with all [my] heart, and with all [my]soul, and with [my] might".

Wisdom and Zeal

Last Saturday Emily served with other sisters at a wedding of a brother and sister of the church. She said she washed dishes for several hours while other sisters were taking care of other tasks. She was impressed how sisters knew what to do and did the manual tasks so willingly without grumbling.

I then remembered verses from Exodus which I read recently. God put wisdom in men who were charged to work in building the sanctuary and stirred up the hearts of the Israelite to do the work of the Lord. The origin of wisdom and the zeal for the Lord is God!

Exodus 36:1-2 read:
Then wrought Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whom the LORD put wisdom and understanding to know how to work all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary, according to all that the LORD had commanded. And Moses called Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whose heart the LORD had put wisdom, [even] every one whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it:
May God put wisdom and understanding in me and my family to know how to work all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary, according to all that the LORD had commanded. May he stir up our hearts to come unto the work to do it.

Face to Face

The first part of Exodus 33:11 reads "And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend." Some other verses where the Lord spoke with man face to face include:
  • Genesis 32:30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
  • Numbers 12:8 With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold.
  • Deuteronomy 5:4 The LORD talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire.
  • Deuternomony 34:10 And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face.
In the Old Testament it seems that Jacob, Moses, and the Israelites saw or talked with God face to face. Maybe there are others who did so as well.

God's promises in both OT and NT include face-to-face communication with God:
  • Ezekiel 20:35 And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I plead with you face to face.
  • 1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
Though I am now in a great trouble, my God speaks to me face to face and mouth to mouth, like the hymn FACE TO FACE WITH CHRIST, MY SAVIOR:

Face to face with Christ, my Savior,
Face to face—what will it be,
When with rapture I behold Him,
Jesus Christ Who died for me?

Refrain

Face to face I shall behold Him,
Far beyond the starry sky;
Face to face in all His glory,
I shall see Him by and by!

Only faintly now I see Him,
With the darkened veil between,
But a blessèd day is coming,
When His glory shall be seen.

Refrain

What rejoicing in His presence,
When are banished grief and pain;
When the crooked ways are straightened,
And the dark things shall be plain.

Refrain

Face to face—oh, blissful moment!
Face to face—to see and know;
Face to face with my Redeemer,
Jesus Christ Who loves me so.

Refrain

And they saw the God of Israel

Exodus 24 is a great chapter. I enjoyed the chapter very much this morning. 24:10-11 read:
And they saw the God of Israel: and [there was] under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in [his] clearness. And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink.
Although Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, the nobles of the children of Israel saw God, "he did not destroy them. In fact, they shared a meal together in God's presence!"

In reading the previous verses, I was able to see how they were able to see God and not not destroyed. 24:6-8 read:
And Moses took half of the blood, and put [it] in basons; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient. And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled [it] on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words.
Hebrew 4:16 reads:
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
May I come boldly unto the presence of God, the throne of grace each day that I may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Surely this is the time of need and I need to obtain mercy and grace and God's help.

For I know him

In Genesis 18:19, the Lord said:
For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment;
What does the Lord know about me? Does He think of me in the same way He thought of Abraham?

For I know [that] my redeemer liveth

As the three friends of Job continued their attacks on Job and he shared his anguish and sorrow with them in his replies, there was a jewel in Job's confession, "For I know [that] my redeemer liveth."

Job 19:25 - 27 read:
For I know [that] my redeemer liveth, and [that] he shall stand at the latter [day] upon the earth: And [though] after my skin [worms] destroy this [body], yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; [though] my reins be consumed within me.
In trials and sufferings came out the precious confession of Job's faith.

Here is a hymn I enjoyed this morning. Click http://www.hymntime.com/tch/htm/i/k/iknowtha.htm to listen to the music.
I know that my Redeemer lives;
What comfort this sweet sentence gives!
He lives, He lives, who once was dead;
He lives, my ever living Head.

He lives to bless me with His love,
He lives to plead for me above.
He lives my hungry soul to feed,
He lives to help in time of need.

He lives triumphant from the grave,
He lives eternally to save,
He lives all glorious in the sky,
He lives exalted there on high.

He lives to grant me rich supply,
He lives to guide me with His eye,
He lives to comfort me when faint,
He lives to hear my soul’s complaint.

He lives to silence all my fears,
He lives to wipe away my tears
He lives to calm my troubled heart,
He lives all blessings to impart.

He lives, my kind, wise, heavenly Friend,
He lives and loves me to the end;
He lives, and while He lives, I’ll sing;
He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King.

He lives and grants me daily breath;
He lives, and I shall conquer death:
He lives my mansion to prepare;
He lives to bring me safely there.

He lives, all glory to His Name!
He lives, my Jesus, still the same.
Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives,
I know that my Redeemer lives!

Miserable Comforters

Job 2:11 reads:
Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.
Job 16:1 - 8 read:
Then Job answered and said, I have heard many such things: miserable comforters [are] ye all. Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest? I also could speak as ye [do]: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you. [But] I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage [your grief]. Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and [though] I forbear, what am I eased? But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company. And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, [which] is a witness [against me]: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.
Job's three friends came to mourn with Job and to comfort him. However to Job, they were "miserable comforters". Their words, though they might be correct, were vain words. Rather than comforting or strengthening Job, they made him more weary and desolate and filled him with wrinkles.

In contrast to Job's friends, we have much better Comforter.

2 Cor 1:3-5 read:

Blessed [be] God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
May I not be like Job's friends who added more miseries to Job by being self-righteous. May I first be comforted by my God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort. May I then comfort others in trouble with the comfort I myself am comforted of God. Amen.

What the father needs to do

Job 1:4-5 read:
And his sons went and feasted [in their] houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. And it was so, when the days of [their] feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings [according] to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.
Today is the New Year's Eve and Esther and Tim are excited about the parties they are planning to attend. Since the winter breaks started and Esther arrived to Korea, they went out each night to meet with their friends.

They are like Job's children who went and feasted in their houses.

What did the father do when his children were enjoying themselves? Job "sanctified them" by rising up early in the morning and offering burnt offerings.

May I learn from Job how to be a good father!

Sons of God

As I was reading Genesis and Job, I came upon the phrase "sons of God". People explain the meaning of the phrase in various ways but I wanted to know what the Bible say about it. Rather than relying on what theologians say about it, I like what the Bible explains itself.

Here are the instances where the phrase comes up in the Bible:

That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they [were] fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare [children] to them, the same [became] mighty men which [were] of old, men of renown.
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.
Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.
When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

for in his days was the earth divided

Genesis 10:25 reads:
And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one [was] Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's name [was] Joktan.
I used to think that this verse had something to do with continental drift. However Dr. John Morris of ICR points out in "What Happened in the Days of Peleg?" that
while continental separation is well supported, it is still unproven, and very likely unprovable ... The traditional interpretation relates Peleg's day to the division of language/family groups at the Tower of Babel.

Outer Darkenss

Today I heard a message on Matthew 8:5-13, which talks about a centurion's sick servant. Jesus
marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
He continued, saying,
And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
In the past, I studied verses about "weeping and gnashing of teeth" and decided that people who were not saved were cast into the hell and there they were weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Today, though, the phrase "outer darkness" gave me a pause: Is outer darkness the hell or somewhere else? Who were the people that "shall be cast out into outer darkness", where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth?

John MacArthur answered similar questions at http://www.biblebb.com/files/macqa/70-13-17.htm:

Question

I have a question from Matthew 8:12. It says, “the sons of the kingdom should be cast into outer darkness, where there’s weeping and gnashing of teeth.” I came from an organization where they teach that there are born-again Christians who, because they don’t live a holy, godly, Christian life, can forfeit the kingdom and wind up in this place of outer darkness. Do you believe in this? Or do you believe that all Christians will get into the kingdom, no matter how they live?

Answer

First of all, I don’t believe that kind of stuff, that Christians are going to wind up cast out of the kingdom, weeping, with gnashing of teeth. Jesus said, “All that the Father gives to Me will come to Me, and I have lost none of them,” John 6. None of them are going to be lost--none of them. Paul said, “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you, will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Paul said, “What shall separate you from the love of God? Nothing. Life, death, principalities, powers--nothing,” Roman 8, “shall separate you.” Nothing. And, you’re saved because you were chosen in Him before the foundation of the world, that you might become like Jesus Christ. That is not going to be interrupted.

Now, you can’t lose your salvation. That’s clear as it can be in scripture. Second point: a Christian, by very nature, and by very desire, longs to live a holy life. That’s not the perfection of His life, but that’s the direction of it. So, a Christian--a true Christian--isn’t going to choose to live like that, or he’s not a true Christian. Right? Because a true Christian loves God, hates sin, and desires to obey. Doesn’t love God as fully as he should, doesn’t hate sin as much as he should, doesn’t obey as often as he should, but that’s the desire of his heart or her heart. If you’re truly saved, you’re going to pursue the right thing, you’re going to pursue the things of God, and you can’t lose your salvation.

Question (continued)

Just one more question? Who are the “sons of the kingdom” there in Matthew 8:12--who’s that talking about?

Answer (continued)

Jews. Jews, who had every right by birth into the line of Israel to inherit the kingdom promised to Israel, but they were going to wind up cast out of the very kingdom which was their inheritance and their birthright because they rejected the Messiah. They rejected Jesus Christ.

Matthew Henry said of this passage:

(2.) As to others. Christ takes occasion from hence to make a comparison between Jews and Gentiles, and tells them two things, which could not but be very surprising to them who had been taught that salvation was of the Jews.

[1.] That a great many of the Gentiles should be saved, v. 11. The faith of the centurion was but a specimen of the conversion of the Gentiles, and a preface to their adoption into the church. This was a topic our Lord Jesus touched often upon; he speaks it with assurance; I say unto you, "I that know all men;’’ and he could not say any thing more pleasing to himself, or more displeasing to the Jews; an intimation of this kind enraged the Nazarenes against him, Lu. 4:27. Christ gives us here an idea, First, of the persons that shall be saved; many from the east and the west: he had said (ch. 7:14), Few there be that find the way of life; and yet here many shall come. Few at one time, and in one place; yet, when they come altogether, they will be a great many. We now see but here and there one brought to grace; but we shall shortly see the Captain of our salvation bringing many sons to glory, Heb. 2:10. He will come with ten thousands of his saints (Jude 14), with such a company as no man can number (Rev. 7:9); with nations of them that are saved, Rev. 21:24. They shall come from the east and from the west; places far distant from each other; and yet they shall all meet at the right hand of Christ, the Centre of their unity. Note, God has his remnant in all places; from the rising of the sun, to the going down of the same, Mal. 1:11. The elect will be gathered from the four winds, ch. 24:31. They are sown in the earth, some scattered in every corner of the field. The Gentile world lay from east to west, and they are especially meant here; though they were strangers to the covenant of promise now, and had been long, yet who knows what hidden ones God had among them then? As in Elijah’s time in Israel (1 Ki. 19:14), soon after which they flocked into the church in great multitudes, Isa. 60:3, 4. Note, When we come to heaven, as we shall miss a great many there, that we thought had been going thither, so we shall meet a great many there, that we did not expect. Secondly, Christ gives us an idea of the salvation itself. They shall come, shall come together, shall come together to Christ, 2 Th. 2:1. 1. They shall be admitted into the kingdom of grace on earth, into the covenant of grace made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; they shall be blessed with faithful Abraham, whose blessing comes upon the Gentiles, Gal. 3:14. This makes Zaccheus a son of Abraham, Lu. 19:9. 2. They shall be admitted into the kingdom of glory in heaven. They shall come cheerfully, flying as doves to their windows; they shall sit down to rest from their labours, as having done their day’s work; sitting denotes continuance: while we stand, we are going; where we sit, we mean to stay; heaven is a remaining rest, it is a continuing city; they shall sit down, as upon a throne (Rev. 3:21); as at a table; that is the metaphor here; they shall sit down to be feasted; which denotes both fulness of communication, and freedom and familiarity of communion, Lu. 22:30. They shall sit down with Abraham. They who in this world were ever so far distant from each other in time, place, or outward condition, shall all meet together in heaven; ancients and moderns, Jews and Gentiles, rich and poor. The rich man in hell sees Abraham, but Lazarus sits down with him, leaning on his breast. Note, Holy society is a part of the felicity of heaven; and they on whom the ends of the world are come, and who are most obscure, shall share in glory with the renowned patriarchs.

[2.] That a great many of the Jews should perish, v. 12. Observe,

First, A strange sentence passed; The children of the kingdom shall be cast out; the Jews that persist in unbelief, though they were by birth children of the kingdom, yet shall be cut off from being members of the visible church: the kingdom of God, of which they boasted that they were the children, shall be taken from them, and they shall become not a people, not obtaining mercy, Rom. 11:20; 9:31. In the great day it will not avail men to have been children of the kingdom, either as Jews or as Christians; for men will then be judged, not by what they were called, but by what they were. If children indeed, then heirs; but many are children in profession, in the family, but not of it, that will come short of the inheritance. Being born of professing parents denominates us children of the kingdom; but if we rest in that, and have nothing else to show for heaven but that, we shall be cast out.

Secondly, A strange punishment for the workers of iniquity described; They shall be cast into outer darkness, the darkness of those that are without, of the Gentiles that were out of the church; into that the Jews were cast, and into worse; they were blinded, and hardened, and filled with terrors, as the apostle shows, Rom. 11:8–10. A people so unchurched and given up to spiritual judgments, are in utter darkness already: but it looks further, to the state of damned sinners in hell, to which the other is a dismal preface. They shall be cast out from God, and all true comfort, and cast into darkness. In hell there is fire, but no light; it is utter darkness; darkness in extremity; the highest degree of darkness, without any remainder, or mixture, or hope, of light; not the least gleam or glimpse of it; it is darkness that results from their being shut out of heaven, the land of light; they who are without, are in the regions of darkness; yet that is not the worst of it, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 1. In hell there will be great grief, floods of tears shed to no purpose; anguish of spirit preying eternally upon the vitals, in the sense of the wrath of God, is the torment of the damned. 2. Great indignation: damned sinners will gnash their teeth for spite and vexation, full of the fury of the Lord; seeing with envy the happiness of others, and reflecting with horror upon the former possibility of their own being happy, which is now past.

Bible Verses

My Faith Has Found a Resting Place

1. My faith has found a resting place,
Not in device or creed;
I trust the ever living One,
His wounds for me shall plead.

Refrain

I need no other argument,
I need no other plea,
It is enough that Jesus died,
And that He died for me.

2. Enough for me that Jesus saves,
This ends my fear and doubt;
A sinful soul I come to Him,
He’ll never cast me out.

Refrain

3. My heart is leaning on the Word,
The living Word of God,
Salvation by my Savior’s Name,
Salvation through His blood.

Refrain

4. My great Physician heals the sick,
The lost He came to save;
For me His precious blood He shed,
For me His life He gave.

Sang-Bak

Here is what the Lord my Father is speaking to me this morning.

Proverbs 3:1-12

My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son [in whom] he delighteth.

I visited Sang-Bak last night at this home and had a very good time with him. He served me with two different kinds of teas, one of which was a tea that he himself made from leaves. He told me about the tea-making process and how he was considering to start a tea business.

I visited him for about 2 hours. I would like to meet him more often and somehow talk about the Bible with him. Father is telling me this morning,

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Touch me not

Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and [to] my God, and your God. John 20:17

Why did Jesus tell Mary Magdalene not to touch him when he would tell other disciples to touch him later? What did He mean when he said, "I am not yet ascended"?

I found the Matthew Henry's insights quite helpful:

[3.] The further instructions that Christ gave her (v. 17): "Touch me not, but go and carry the news to the disciples.’’

First, He diverts her from the expectation of familiar society and conversation with him at this time: Touch me not, for I am not yet ascended. Mary was so transported with the sight of her dear Master that she forgot herself, and that state of glory into which he was now entering, and was ready to express her joy by affectionate embraces of him, which Christ here forbids at this time. 1. Touch me not thus at all, for I am to ascend to heaven. He bade the disciples touch him, for the confirmation of their faith; he allowed the women to take hold of his feet, and worship him (Mt. 28:9); but Mary, supposing that he was risen, as Lazarus was, to live among them constantly, and converse with them freely as he had done, upon that presumption was about to take hold of his hand with her usual freedom. This mistake Christ rectified; she must believe him, and adore him, as exalted, but must not expect to be familiar with him as formerly. See 2 Co. 5:16. He forbids her to dote upon his bodily presence, to set her heart on this, or expect its continuance, and leads her to the spiritual converse and communion which she should have with him after he was ascended to his Father; for the greatest joy of his resurrection was that it was a step towards his ascension. Mary thought, now that her Master was risen, he would presently set up a temporal kingdom, such as they had long promised themselves. "No,’’ says Christ, "touch me not, with any such thought; think not to lay hold on me, so as to detain me here; for, though I am not yet ascended, go to my brethren, and tell them, I am to ascend.’’ As before his death, so now after his resurrection, he still harps upon this, that he was going away, was no more in the world; and therefore they must look higher than his bodily presence, and look further than the present state of things. 2. "Touch me not, do not stay to touch me now, stay not now to make any further enquiries, or give any further expressions of joy, for I am not yet ascended, I shall not depart immediately, it may as well be done another time; the best service thou canst do now is to carry the tidings to the disciples; lose no time therefore, but go away with all speed.’’ Note, Public service ought to be preferred before private satisfaction. It is more blessed to give than to receive. Jacob must let an angel go, when the day breaks, and it is time for him to look after his family. Mary must not stay to talk with her Master, but must carry his message; for it is a day of good tidings, which she must not engross the comfort of, but hand it to others. See that story, 2 Ki. 7:9.
