Face to Face

The first part of Exodus 33:11 reads "And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend." Some other verses where the Lord spoke with man face to face include:

• Genesis 32:30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
• Numbers 12:8 With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold.
• Deuteronomy 5:4 The LORD talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire.
• Deuternomony 34:10 And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face.

In the Old Testament it seems that Jacob, Moses, and the Israelites saw or talked with God face to face. Maybe there are others who did so as well.

God's promises in both OT and NT include face-to-face communication with God:

• Ezekiel 20:35 And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I plead with you face to face.
• 1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Though I am now in a great trouble, my God speaks to me face to face and mouth to mouth, like the hymn FACE TO FACE WITH CHRIST, MY SAVIOR:

Face to face with Christ, my Savior,
Face to face—what will it be,
When with rapture I behold Him,
Jesus Christ Who died for me?
