Yahweh Calls Samuel - 1 Samuel 1-3

Elkanah and His Wives

[15] But Hannah answered and said, "No, my lord, I am a woman oppressed in spirit; I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have poured out my soul before Yahweh. ...
[18] And she said, "Let your servant-woman find favor in your sight." So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer [sad].
[1Sa 1:15, 18 LSB]

The Birth of Samuel

[27] "For this young boy I prayed, and Yahweh has given me my petition which I asked of Him.
[28] "So I have also dedicated him to Yahweh; as long as he lives, he is dedicated to Yahweh." So he worshiped Yahweh there.
[1Sa 1:27-28 LSB]

Hannah’s Song of Thanksgiving

[1] Then Hannah prayed and said, "My heart exults in Yahweh; My horn is exalted in Yahweh; My mouth speaks boldly against my enemies, Because I am glad in Your salvation.
[1Sa 2:1 LSB]

The Sin of Eli’s Sons

[12] Now the sons of Eli were vile men; they did not know Yahweh. [1Sa 2:12 LSB]

Samuel Before Yahweh as a Boy

[18] Now Samuel was ministering before Yahweh, [as] a young boy girded with a linen ephod. ...
[21] Yahweh indeed visited Hannah; and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. And the young boy Samuel grew before Yahweh.
[1Sa 2:18, 21 LSB]

Eli Hears About His Sons’ Evils

[26] Now the young boy Samuel was growing in stature and in favor both with Yahweh and with men. [1Sa 2:26 LSB]

Eli Honors His Sons Above Yahweh

[29] 'Why do you kick at My sacrifice and at My offering which I have commanded [in My] habitation, and honor your sons above Me, by making yourselves fat with the choicest of every offering of My people Israel?'
[1Sa 2:29 LSB]

Yahweh Calls Samuel

[13] "And I have told him that I am about to judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knew because his sons have been bringing a curse on themselves, but he did not rebuke them.
[1Sa 3:13 LSB]

[18] Discipline your son while there is hope, And do not direct your soul to put him to death.
[Pro 19:18 LSB]

[13] Do not withhold discipline from the child, Although you strike him with the rod, he will not die. [14] You shall strike him with the rod And deliver his soul from Sheol.
[Pro 23:13-14 LSB]

[15] The rod and reproof give wisdom, But a child left [to himself] brings shame to his mother.
[Pro 29:15 LSB]

[19] Thus Samuel grew, and Yahweh was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.
[20] So all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was confirmed as a prophet of Yahweh.
[21] And Yahweh appeared again at Shiloh, because Yahweh revealed Himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of Yahweh.
[1Sa 3:19-21 LSB]
