Take Up Your Cross - Mark 7-9

God’s Commandments, Man’s Traditions

[13] Then the Lord said, "Because this people draw near with their mouth And honor Me with their lips, But they remove their hearts far from Me, And their fear of Me is [in the] command of men learned [by rote],
[Isa 29:13 LSB]

The Heart of Man

[21] "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, sexual immoralities, thefts, murders, adulteries,
[22] coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, [and] foolishness.
[23] "All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man."
[Mar 7:21-23 LSB]

A Gentile Woman’s Faith

[28] But she answered and said to Him, "Yes, Lord, [but] even the dogs under the table feed on the children's crumbs." [Mar 7:28 LSB]

[29] And He said to her, "Because of this answer go; the demon has gone out of your daughter."
[Mar 7:29 LSB]

The Deaf Hear, the Mute Speak

[37] And they were utterly astonished, saying, "He has done all things well; He makes even the deaf to hear and the mute to speak."
[Mar 7:37 LSB]

Jesus Feeds Four Thousand

[11] And the Pharisees came out and began to argue with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, testing Him.
[12] And sighing deeply in His spirit, He said, "Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation."
[Mar 8:11-12 LSB]

[15] And He was giving orders to them, saying, "Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod."
[Mar 8:15 LSB]

Peter Confesses Jesus Is the Christ

[29] And He [continued] asking them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered and said to Him, "You are the Christ."
[Mar 8:29 LSB]

Take Up Your Cross

[34] And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.
[35] "For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it.
[Mar 8:34-35 LSB]

[38] "For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels."
[Mar 8:38 LSB]

The Transfiguration

[1] And Jesus was saying to them, "Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God having come in power."
[2] And six days later, Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John, and brought them up on a high mountain alone by themselves. And He was transfigured before them;
[Mar 9:1-2 LSB]

I Believe, Help My Unbelief

[23] And Jesus said to him, "'If You can?' All things are possible to him who believes."
[24] Immediately the boy's father cried out and was saying, "I do believe; help my unbelief."
[Mar 9:23-24 LSB]

[29] And He said to them, "This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer."
[Mar 9:29 LSB]

[31] For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, "The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise again three days later." [Mar 9:31 LSB]

[41] "For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in [My] name because you are of Christ, truly I say to you, he will not lose his reward.
[42] "And whoever causes one of these little ones who believe to stumble, it would be better for him if, with a heavy millstone hung around his neck, he had been cast into the sea.
[Mar 9:41-42 LSB]
