In the New Testament the verb preach is used sometimes without an object and sometimes with an object. Many times Jesus and disciples preached and other times they preached something.
The Strong number for preach in Mark 16:15 is 2784. Here is what I found out from the BlueLetter Bible web site.

Peter, what was your premise and conclusion of your study?
From your study and conclusion, Peter, it seems to me that the content of preaching by John the Baptist, Jesus, and His disciples was very broad, covering many aspects of the gospel, glad tidings, of God.
When I was initially preaching the gospel, I was always trying to figure out how to fit in the work of Christ on the cross for the forgiveness of sin, in my gospel conversations. Then later, I came to realize that this is not necessarily how Jesus, Peter, Paul and others preached the gospel either. This does not mean that they did not preach Christ’s work on the cross. But rather they spoke glad tidings that fit the person and the situation to bring them to God and His salvation.
For example, when Jesus was dealing with the Samaritan woman by Jacob's well (John 4), He did not address His redemptive work. Rather, He talked about His own thirst (signifying His thirst for mankind to come back to God) and her thirst. The good news of the story was that she got to meet Jesus and receive the drink that He gave Him to the extent that she was bubbling over to the people in her village. All she told them was “Come, see a man who told me all that I have done. Is this not the Christ?” (John 4:29) Wasn’t this a wonderful message that she gave to lead many to Christ?
Later on, the village people “believed into Him because of the word of the woman who testified, ‘He told me all that I have done’” (John 4:39), and they asked Jesus to remain with them and He complied by remaining with them for two days (v. 40). And not only so, their faith increased to a point where they could tell the woman, “It is no longer because of your speaking that we believe, for we ourselves have heard and know that this One is truly the Savior of the world” (v. 42)
I don’t know about you. But my gospel preaching has not been this effective, i.e. the Holy Spirit’s work so strong. This woman was so happy and satisfied in the Lord that she only need to relay a part of her experience. If I were to criticize her preaching, I would say that she didn’t even get the main point, the asking and receiving of the living water. But for some reason, this is not what she had to relay-- “Come, see a man who told me all that I have done. Is this not the Christ?” (v. 29)
Sometimes, we criticize one another in the gospel, the content and the delivery of the gospel. However, shouldn’t we realize that the workers are few and we should beseech the Lord of the harvest to thrust out workers? Secondly, shouldn’t we have Paul’s attitude in Philippians 1:18 “What then? Only that in every way whether in pretense or in truthfulness, Christ is announced; and in this I rejoice; yes, and I will rejoice.”
We should examine our fruit of the gospel and see the lack in the gospel. We should be hungry to lead people to Christ and expect to hear them say “It is no longer because of your speaking that we believe, for we ourselves have heard and know that this One is truly the Savior of the world” (v. 42). May we all have more joyful stories in the gospel!
