Chapter 1 The Promise of the Holy Spirit

[Act 1:6 LSB] So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, "Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?"

[Act 1:7-8 LSB] But He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has set by His own authority; but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to THE END OF THE EARTH."

The Ascension

[Act 1:11 LSB] They also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven."

Chapter 2 The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost

[Act 2:1 LSB] And when the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all together in one place.

[2Ch 8:12-13 LSB] Then Solomon offered burnt offerings to Yahweh on the altar of Yahweh which he had built before the porch; and [did so] according to the daily rule, offering [them] up according to the commandment of Moses, for the sabbaths, the new moons and the three annual feasts--the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Weeks and the Feast of Booths.

[Exo 34:22 LSB] "And you shall celebrate the Feast of Weeks, [that is], the first fruits of the wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the turn of the year.

[Act 2:2-4 LSB] And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues like fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.

Peter’s Sermon at Pentecost

[Act 2:15-21 LSB] "For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is the third hour of the day; but this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: 

'AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,' God says, 

'THAT I WILL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT ON ALL MANKIND; 

AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, 

AND YOUR YOUNG MEN SHALL SEE VISIONS, 

AND YOUR OLD MEN SHALL DREAM DREAMS; 

EVEN ON MY MALE SLAVES AND FEMALE SLAVES, 

I WILL IN THOSE DAYS POUR OUT MY SPIRIT 

And they shall prophesy.

'AND I WILL PUT WONDERS IN THE SKY ABOVE 

AND SIGNS ON THE EARTH BELOW, 

BLOOD, AND FIRE, AND VAPOR OF SMOKE. 

'THE SUN WILL BE TURNED INTO DARKNESS 

AND THE MOON INTO BLOOD, 

BEFORE THE GREAT AND AWESOME DAY OF THE LORD COMES. 

'AND IT WILL BE THAT EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.'

[Joe 2:28-32 LSB] "And it will be afterwards 

That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; 

And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy; 

Your old men will dream dreams; 

Your young men will see visions. 

"Even on the male slaves and female slaves I will in those days pour out My Spirit. 

"And I will put wonders in the sky and on the earth, 

Blood, fire, and columns of smoke. 

"The sun will be turned into darkness 

And the moon into blood 

Before the great and awesome day of Yahweh comes."

And it will be that everyone who calls on the name of Yahweh 

Will be delivered; 

For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem 

There will be those who escape, 

As Yahweh has said, 

Even among the survivors whom Yahweh calls.

[Act 2:25-28 LSB]
"For David says of Him, 'I SAW THE LORD CONTINUALLY BEFORE ME; BECAUSE HE IS AT MY RIGHT HAND, SO THAT I WILL NOT BE SHAKEN.

'THEREFORE MY HEART WAS GLAD AND MY TONGUE EXULTED; MOREOVER MY FLESH ALSO WILL LIVE IN HOPE;

BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT FORSAKE MY SOUL TO HADES, NOR GIVE YOUR HOLY ONE OVER TO SEE CORRUPTION.

'YOU HAVE MADE KNOWN TO ME THE WAYS OF LIFE; YOU WILL MAKE ME FULL OF GLADNESS WITH YOUR PRESENCE.'

[Psa 16:8-11 LSB]

I have set Yahweh continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will dwell securely.

For You will not forsake my soul to Sheol; You will not give Your Holy One over to see corruption.

You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.

"This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses.

"Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured out this which you both see and hear.

[Act 2:34-36 LSB]
"For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says: 'THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD, "SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND,

UNTIL I PUT YOUR ENEMIES AS A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET."'

"Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ--this Jesus whom you crucified."

[Psa 110:1 LSB] Of David. A Psalm. Yahweh says to my Lord: "Sit at My right hand Until I put Your enemies as a footstool for Your feet."

[Heb 1:13 LSB] But to which of the angels has He ever said, "SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, UNTIL I PUT YOUR ENEMIES AS A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET"? 

About Three Thousand Souls Saved

[Act 2:37-38 LSB]
Now when they heard [this], they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men, brothers, what should we do?"

And Peter [said] to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

[Act 2:42 LSB] And they were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to the prayers.

[Act 2:46 LSB] And daily devoting themselves with one accord in the temple and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart,

[Act 2:47 LSB] praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number daily those who were being saved.
